Organizations Filed Purposes:
KACAP supports Community Action Agencies and other human services organizations in their local, state and national efforts to end poverty.
KACAP was the lead recipient for a regional consortia grant (RPIC) that was administered by the federal Office of Community Services, under the auspices of the federal Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families. The central mission of the RPIC strategy is to ensure that all CSBG-eligible entities are able to meet organizational standards and performance management efforts and utilize evidence-based and evidence-informed approaches to address the identified needs of low-income people in communities. As the Region VII lead, KACAP has two responsibilities: 1) provided grant funds to sub-recipients in Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska to perform activities to fit with the grant's mission; and 2) oversee and coordinate region-wide efforts. KACAP used $315,178 in funds for the first item and $22,557 for the second item, which went towards facilitating a regional coordinating council, monitoring sub-recipient activities, supporting region-wide in-person and webinar training, and complete federal reporting requirements for the region.
KACAP hosted the 2019 Kansas Conference on Poverty, a statewide training event designed to provide increased knowledge and skills to anti-poverty practitioners and advocates in the areas of evidence-based/evidence-informed service strategies and agency-capacity building. The event was attended by approximately 220 individuals and provided 34 training opportunities.
KACAP was involved in several training and technical assistance activities to help the Kansas Community Action Agencies increase their capacity to fulfill the anti-poverty missions and to implement the federally-required CSBG organizational standards and performance measurement system.
