Organizations Filed Purposes: Located in Topeka, Kansas, the Museum is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Kansas National Guard and honoring the memories of the soldiers and airmen who, for over 160 years, have served Kansas and the United States whenever the call was made.

To construct & operate a military educational museum.

Museum/Displays Construction & Repair: Completed major equipment displays in Outside Exhibit Building. Restored M1114 Up-armored Hummer and M151A1 Jeep to running condition. Refurbished L-19 Bird Dog Airplane cockpit, to included recovering of seats. Repainted and refurbished the OH-23 Raven Helicopter and placed in Exhibit Building. Repainted inside and out the OH-6 Cayuse Helicopter and refurbished it to include new seats. Completed restoration of the M-20 Command Car, formerly on exhibit at the Eisenhower Museum in Abilene, Kansas.Completed inside exhibits on "The Kansas National Guard in 2020," to include heavy emphasis on the Kansas National Guard involvement in the COVID pandemic; "Fulltime Positions in the Kansas National Guard, and "Aircraft Flown by the Kansas Air National Guard." Improved and updated exhibits on World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War.Accessioned 64 artifact collections and collections for exhibit and storage, added 38 document files and document boxes to the Museum Library, cataloged and filed 54 additional library books and CD's, placed several new prints on exhibit, and made minor improvements to many exhibits.Reorganized, sorted, and re-stored many of the artifacts in basement storage. Constructed and placed in service 14 new clothing racks for storage of military uniforms.Accessioned most Federal artifacts and equipment donations from the Eisenhower Museum to Museum property records.Began planning process for construction of outside covers for equipment displays.

Due to the COVID pandemic, the Museum was forced to close during the months of April and May, and quarantining and group size limitations throughout the rest of the year reduced the visitor count significantly. However, while many museums were closed most of the year, the Museum of the Kansas National Guard hosted 12,185 visitors who signed the Visitor Register, and several hundred others who did not sign the register, during the year from 43 states and 17 foreign countries, utilizing Volunteer Hosts. The Museum was open 237 days from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. for routine visitor hours and 31 additional times for events and activities for a total of 1857 hours of volunteer host labor. The Museum has no admission charge, but accepts voluntary contributions. The Museum answered 121 internet, personal, and telephone historical inquiries pertaining to military service, unit histories, insignia, photos, etc. The Museum serves as the location for the Kansas National Guard Hall of Fame and the 35th Division Hall of Fame. The Museum Libraries and archives continue to serve as research centers for soldier and unit history.The Museum hosts an updated website at www.kansasguardmuseum.org, which provides a history of the Kansas Army and Air National Guard exhibits inside and outside the Museum, as well as a Museum Facebook page.The Museum provided tours for 11 school and community groups.Museum staff provided speakers for five community group meetings.

Museum Events: The Museum hosted the following events during the year, all open free to the public:Quarterly Luncheons - Due to the pandemic, the Museum only hosted two Quarterly Brown Bag Luncheons with speakers on the topics of "The Kansas National Guard in 2020, and "The Kansas National Guard Meets the COVID Pandemic and Civil Disturbance Duty in Washington, D.C."Christmas Open House - The Museum sponsored a Christmas Open House for Volunteers and Board Members.Cub Scouts - The Museum is the chartering agency and sponsor for Cub Scout Pack 250, which meets monthly in the Museum when not affected by the COVID pandemic.Retiree/State of the Guard Briefing - The Museum co-hosted with the Enlisted Assn of the Kansas National Guard and the National Guard Assn. of Kansas a Retiree/State of the Guard Briefing on 6 Mar 21.Fulltime Retiree Luncheon - Due to the pandemic, the Fulltime Retiree Luncheon was canceled in 2020.Yellow Ribbon Event - The Museum had a booth at the Yellow Ribbon Event for the return of the 169th Corps Support & Sustainment Battalion at the Maner Conference Center in Topeka.Korean War Day - The Museum was a co-sponsor of the annual Korean War Day, held in 2020 at Gage Park due to the pandemic.Monthly Coffees- Monthly Coffees were hosted on the first Wednesday of each month, except for April and May 2020 when the Museum was closed by county order.The Museum hosted several Staff Calls, Commander's Calls, Officer Professional Developments, a Desert Storm Reunion, and other activities during the year.The Museum hosted the Virtual Conference for NGAKS of the National Guard Association of the United States.The Museum hosted the February virtual meeting of the Kaw Valley Chapter of the Military Officer Assn. of America.The Museum contracted with Patriotic Productions of Omaha, NE to host the "Remembering Our Fallen" exhibit of the 5000+ military personnel who have given their lives in the Global War on Terrorism since 9-11 for 9-14 June 2021.The Museum hosted NGAKS, EANGKS, 35th Division Assn Executive Committee, National Guard Hall of Fame Board and Selection Committee meetings, Cub Scout and Girl Scout meetings and campouts, history re-enactor meetings, Blue Sky Squadron meetings, Kansas National Guard Foundation meetings, Kansas Army National Guard Recruiter meetings, and Air National Guard 190th ARW meetings and recruit and retiree events.
