SENIOR SERVICES, INC. OF WICHITA IS DEDICATED TO DELIVERING SERVICES THAT ALLOW OLDER ADULTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAD QUALITY LIVES WHILE CONTINUING TO MAKE POSITIVE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY.

MEALS ON WHEELS DELIVERED OVER 220,000 HOT AND NUTRITIOUS MEALS TO 1,447 HOMEBOUND SENIORS FIVE DAYS A WEEKS AND SEVEN DAYS A WEEK FOR THE INDIVIDUALS WITH THE MOST NEED. VOLUNTEERS WHO DELIVER THE MEALS PROVIDE A DAILY FACE TO FACE CONTACT FOR MANY WHO ARE OTHERWISE ISOLATED. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO FACILITATES THE ROVING PANTRY PROGRAM WHICH TAKES GROCERY ORDERS AND SHOPS AND DELIVERS TO HOMEBOUND SENIORS WHO HAVE NO ONE TO SHOP FOR THEM. SENIOR SERVICES PROVIDED DELIVERIES TO 175 INDIVIDUALS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR UNDER THE ROVING PANRY PROGRAM THIS PAST YEAR.
FOUR SENIOR CENTERS ARE OPERATED THROUGH SENIOR SERVICES, PROVIDING PEOPLE AGED 55+ WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN, GROW AND STAY PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY AND SOCIALLY ACTIVE. THE CENTERS OFFER A VAST ARRAY OF EVENTS AND PROGRAMS SUCH AS PICKLEBALL, EXERCISE CLASSES, EDUCATIONAL AND CRAFT OPPORTUNITIES. THE GOAL OF SENIOR CENTERS IS TO HELP THOSE 55+ REMAIN INDEPENDENT AND CONNECTED TO OTHERS. 2020 HAS HAD ITS CHALLENGES, WITH THE FOCUS TO HELP THESE SENIORS REMAIN CONNECTED AND BATTLE ISOLATION WHILE THE SENIOR CENTERS WERE CLOSED FOR VISITS. THE SENIOR CENTERS WERE ABLE TO SERVE 1,963 SENIORS WITH 15,882 CONTACTS DURING THE YEAR. THIS NUMBER IS DOWN FROM THE NORM DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD IN PREVIOUS YEARS WHERE THE AVERAGE IS 2,869 SENIORS WITH 62,699 CONTACTS (2019).
THE SENIOR EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM ASSISTS JOB SEEKERS, AGED 55+, TO FIND MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT IN BUSINESS AND/OR INHOME SUPPORT PLACEMENTS. IN 2020 THE PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO MAKE THESE CONNECTIONS VIA EMAIL, PHONE, MAIL, AND FACE-TO FACE CONTACTS WITH APPROXIMATELY 715 PERSONS. PLACING 375 IN BUSINESS, AND 82 IN AN IN-HOME SUPPORT POSITION- DESPITE THE CHALLENGES OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THESE NUMBERS WERE DOWN FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR (2019) WHICH WERE 513 AND 110 RESPECTIVELY.
