Mountain Association works with people in eastern Kentucky and Central Appalachia to create economic opportunity, strengthen democracy and support the sustainable use of natural resources.

Enterprise DevelopmentMountain Association's Enterprise Development program helps entrepreneurs and small business owners develop the tools and skills they need to create quality jobs through strong businesses that provide important community services. We provide access to investment capital combined with training and technical assistance to increase their capacity and likelihood of success. At fiscal year end, the combined portfolio of Mountain Association and its affiliated nonprofit Appalachian Investment Corporation included 224 loans totaling approximately $21,500,000. In fiscal year 2020 we closed 64 loans, disbursing a total of approximately $4,300,000.
Appalachian Transition Communications and Policy (ATCaP)Appalachian Transition is both the overarching framework of our vision for Appalachia's brighter future and a body of work aimed at moving us toward that future. ATCaP is focused on conducting communications campaigns, telling important stories through a broad range of avenues, and connecting with leaders and organizations across the country as part of shifting the conversations about the region, our economic transition and our bright future.
Kentucky Center for Economic Policy The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy (KCEP) provides solid information and grounded analysis about state fiscal and economic policy issues and their impact on low- and moderate-income Kentuckians. KCEP produces briefs, reports and blog posts on Kentucky's tax system and state budget, Medicaid and health care, need-based college aid, the minimum wage, adult education, K-12 school funding, and other issues. We operate a blog at our website, kypolicy.org, which produced a stream of analysis and commentary on pressing issues facing the state.
