MIDDLE KENTUCKY COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP, INC.'S MISSION IS TO ELIMINATE BARRIERS AND EMPOWER FAMILIES TO BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY.

HEAD START:MIDDLE KENTUCKY COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP, INC. (MKCAP) HEAD START PROGRAM HELPS TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY BY PROVIDING LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WITH PRESCHOOL CHILDREN A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM TO MEET THEIR EMOTIONAL, SOCIAL, HEALTH, AND PSYCHOLOGICAL NEEDS TO SUPPORT THE FAMILIES IN 4 OF THE MOST IMPOVERISHED COUNTIES IN THE UNITED STATES.MKCAP'S HEAD START PROGRAM RECEIVED A SUPPLEMENT GRANT TO PURCHASE WO NEW BUSES DESPERATELY NEEDED FOR THE PROGRAM. WE ALSO RECEIVED A COLA ALLOTMENT OF 2.0% AS WELL AS NOTIFICATION OF A QUALITY IMPROVEMENT GRANT OF $85,386 FOR THE NEXT FISCAL YEAR. MIDDLE KY HAS ALSO SUBMITTED A GRANT APPLICATION TO EXPAND TO EARLY HEAD START WHICH AS OF NOW, NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE ON ITS APPROVAL.
LIHEAP -THE LIHEAP PROGRAM PROVIDES ENERGY ASSISTANCE TO LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO ARE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE IN COVER ENERGY COSTS FOR THEIR HOMES. FOR FISCAL YEAR 2020 OVER $1.65 MILLION HAS BEEN DISPURSED TO FAMILIES MEETING THE NEED FOR ASSISTANCE, WITH DISCUSSIONS BEING MADE ABOUT EXPANDING THE PROGRAM FOR SUMMER ENERGY NEEDS AS WELL.
THE NON-MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM (NEMT) PROVIDES MEDICAL AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO PERSONS WHO HAVE NO ABILITY TO TRANSPORT THEMSELVES TO LOCATIONS WHERE MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED.MKCAP PROVIDES NON-EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION SERVICES TO MEDICAID, DEPARTMENT FOR THE BLIND, VETERANS AFFAIRS AND VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION CLIENTS IN BREATHITT COUNTY. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, MKCAP PROVIDED 17,009 TRIPS AND 1,094 WHEELCHAIR TRIPS RELATED TO MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION.MKCAP PROVIDES PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITHIN BREATHITT COUNTY. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, MKCAP PROVIDED 1,595 TRIPS AND 78 WHEELCHAIR TRIPS RELATED TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.THROUGHOUT THE FISCAL YEAR, NEMT PROVIDED A TOTAL OF 18,604 TRIPS. A DECREASE OF 2,708 TRIPS COMPARED TO 2019. BEGINNING IN MARCH 2020, DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, THEY GREATLY REDUCED THE STAFF AND NUMBER OF TRIPS THE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM COULD PROVIDE CAUSING THE DECLINE.
