Empower the Bluegrass to create a sustainable environment
Bluegrass Greensource provides education resources to more than 300 schools and non-formal educators throughout our 20 county service area. This year our education staff taught almost 2100 classes and had more than 52,000 student contacts. These included the following successes: Waste Reduction - *Recycling/Composting activities reached 17,078 students *Waste audits with 980 students *Fieldtrips to Recycling Center with 495 students. Water Quality/Conservation - Water activities for 20,512 students*Fats, Oils, and Grease activities for 355 students *Festivals for 2100 contacts *Household Hazardous Waste and alternative cleaners had 397 contacts & 230 students toured the water treatment facility. Bluegrass Greensource provides resources and education to community groups and residents throughout Central Kentucky. Most of our programs focus on energy efficiency, water quality and solid waste issues. This year our outreach staff reached more than 9,000 residents and included the following successes: *Hinkston Creek, Clarks Run and Hanging Fork Watershed Improvement Program-Bluegrass Greensource of- ferred septic system and water quality workshops in Bourbon, Boyle, Lincoln, Montgomery and Nicholas Counties. Attendees could choose between a septic project or a riparian buffer project. As a result, we provided funding to pump out 18 septic systems and approved 18 septic system repairs, and 6 riparian buffers were planted.
***Continued from above*** Green Check is a certification program that provides businesses re- sources to become more sustainable. In its third year, Green Check added 9 new businesses, bringing the total number of certified busi- nesses to 31. *Public Relations* Incorporated social media into out- reach strategy including a Facebook page (5,492 followers), a Twitter account (2,707 followers), an Instagram account (1,319 followers) and a LinkedIn account (178 followers). A monthly e-newsletter is sent to 3,399 recipients. Conducted litter cleanups, including Main Street Clean Sweep, with 859 volunteers who picked up 8,569 pounds of litter. Continued in Schedule O.
