OUR MISSION IS TO: 1)SERVE OUR LISTENERS BY PROVIDING LOCAL, TIMELY, RELEVANT CONTENT AND CRITICAL PUBLIC SAFTELY INFORMATION. 2)AMPLIFY UNDERREPRESENTED VOICES AND PROMOTE EQUALITY BY ENGAGING AND SUPPORTING DIVERSE VIEWS. 3)ENLIVEN OUR COMMUNITY BY CREATING CONNECTIONS AND CONVERSATIONS AROUND LIFE IN LEXINGTON.
LEXINGTON COMMUNITY RADIO'S LARGEST PROGRAM SERVICE IS PROVIDING A MEDIA PLATFORM FOR CITIZENS OF OUR COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHOSE VOICES AND VIEWPOINTS ARE NOT REPRESENTED IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA. OVER 160 VOLUNTEERS PRODUCE ORIGINAL CONTENT IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, 365 DAYS A YEAR ON TWO STATIONS: WLXU 93.9LPFM AND WLXL "EL PULSO LATINO" 95.7LPFM. WE COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL NONPROFIS TO PRODUCE EDUCATION PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS AS WELL AS LONG-FORM PROGRAMMING. OUR ADVOCACY SHOWS INCLUDE TOPICS SUCH AS AGING COMMUNITIES, WOMEN'S WELLNESS, BIKE SAFETY, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, LOCAL ARTS, VOTER EMPOWERMENT, SUSTAINABILITY AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.
LEXINGTON COMMUNITY RADIO'S SECOND LARGEST PROGRAM SERVICE IS COLLABORATING WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO PROVIDE PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELLNESS INFORMATION TO OUR LISTENERS. OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LEXINGTON-FAYETTE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT PROVIDES WEEKLY INFORMATION ON PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES INCLUDING SMOKING CESSATION, DIABETES PREVENTION, COLON CANCER SCREENINGS AND MUCH MORE IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH. OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH STATE FARM INSURANCE AND TOYOTA MANUFACTURING OF AMERICA PROVIDE INFORMATION AND EDUCATION ON SAFE DRIVING. LEXINGTON COMMUNITY RADIO ALSO SERVES AS A DE FACTO MEDIA ARM FOR OUR COMMUNITY'S NONPROFITS, ALLOWING ORGANIZATIONS PROVIDING SERVICES LOCALLY TO SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THE COMMUNITY.
LEXINGTON COMMUNITY RADIO'S THIRD LARGEST PROGRAM SERVICE IS THE ADVANCEMENT OF LOCAL NEWS AND MUSIC. LEXINGTON COMMUNITY RADIO, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM, REPORTS ON HYPER-LOCAL NEIGHBORHOOD ISSUES WHICH DO NOT GET COVERED IN LOCAL NEWS INCLUDING SCHOOL NEWS AND SPORTS AND COMMUNITY EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS. LOCAL MUSIC IS ALSO A FOCUS OF THE STATION AND LIVE AND AUTOMATED PROGRAMMING FEATURE UP-AND-COMING ARTISTS FROM LEXINGTON'S BURGEONING MUSIC SCENE.
