GLOBAL GAME CHANGERS TEACHES PHILANTHROPY AS A TOOL TO ENHANCE STUDENTS SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL COMPETENCIES AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO HELP THEM SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND BEYOND. THE PROGRAM SERVES AT-RISK CHILDREN FROM JCPS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN LOUISVILLE, KY THAT MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: HIGH (95+) PERCENTAGE FREE & REDUCED MEAL PLAN STUDENTS HIGH (90+) RATE MINORITY STUDENTS HIGH DEGREE OF STUDENT BEHAVIORAL ISSUES HIGH NUMBER OF GRADE LEVEL ACADEMICALLY UNDER-PERFORMING STUDENTS IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM DETAILS PER SCHOOL/CULTURAL PARTNER STUDENTS ATTEND 2 DAYS/WEEK SEPTEMBER THROUGH APRIL (PROGRAMS MEETS WHEN JCPS IS IN SESSION) 4:15PM TO 6:30 PM - 90 HOURS OF OST INSTRUCTION/SCHOOL YEAR 150 K-5 STUDENTS/SCHOOL (EVENLY DISTRIBUTED BY GRADE LEVEL) EACH STUDENT PLANS, IMPLEMENTS, AND PERSONALLY DELIVERS INDIVIDUAL SERVICE PROJECT THAT PUTS CURRICULUM INTO ACTION AND CREATES A SUSTAINABLE CONNECTION WITH THE LESSONS LEARNED PROGRAM IS FREE TO STUDENTS, THEIR FAMILY AND SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED FOR STUDENTS TO PROGRAM SITE AND BACK TO SCHOOL AFTERSCHOOL SNACK PROVIDED BY JCPS BEFORE STUDENTS LEAVE SCHOOL OR DINNER FROM DARE TO CARE KIDS CAF SERVED AT PROGRAM DEPENDING UPON THE SITE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL CHAMPIONS THE PROGRAM AND MAKES A CULTURAL COMMITMENT TO GGC TWO IN-SCHOOL EDUCATORS WORK WITH GGC IN OST PROGRAM AS SCHOOL LIAISONS TO HELP BUILD A CONSISTENT CULTURE PROGRAM IS DEVELOPED/ADMINISTERED THROUGH ROBUST AMERICORPS VISTA AND STATE DIRECT SERVICE GRANTS AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION. GLOBAL GAME CHANGERS POWER OF VOLUNTEERISM PROJECT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE KENTUCKY DERBY FESTIVAL, JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AND MAYOR'S GIVE A DAY WEEK OF SERVICE TO AIMED TO PROVIDE A SERVICE PROJECT TO OVER 100,000+ K-12 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, ARCHDIOCESE OF LOUISVILLE SCHOOLS AND LOUISVILLE INDEPENDENT, PRIVATE, AND HOME SCHOOLS. THE PROJECT GOAL WAS TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS TO CREATE AND SUSTAIN A CULTURE OF VOLUNTEERISM. THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN DEEP CLASSROOM DISCUSSIONS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF KINDNESS, RECOGNITION, GRATITUDE, SERVICE AND VOLUNTEERISM WITH THE GOAL OF ESTABLISHING AN ONGOING DIALOGUE BY BUILDING OFF THESE CONCEPTS.
