IT ACCOMPLISHES THIS BY OPERATING 63 RETAIL STORES AND BY RECEIVING BENEFICIAL SUPPORT SERVICES FROM GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF KENTUCKY, INC.
GOODWILL INDUSTRIES WORKS, INC., A NOT-FOR-PROFIT SUBSIDIARY OF GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF KENTUCKY, INC., HELPS PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES OR OTHER DISADVANTAGES OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN EMPLOYMENT AT ONE OF ITS 64 DONATED GOOD CENTERS THROUGHOUT KENTUCKY BY PROVIDING EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES. OVER 800 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED AND MORE THAN $7,800,000 PAID IN MISSION-RELATED WAGES BY THE GOODWILL INDUSTRIES WORKS PROGRAM DURING FY 2015. THE CENTERS SELL A VARIETY OF DONATED MERCHANDISE (OBTAINED FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND BUSINESSES) TO THE COMMUNITY AT DISCOUNTED PRICES TO HELP STRETCH THE FAMILY BUDGET AND DIVERT DONATED ITEMS FROM LOCAL LANDFILLS. GOODWILL INDUSTRIES WORKS' CENTERS ALSO PROVIDED FUNDING TO SUPPORT EMPLOYMENT COUNSELING, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND EMPLOYMENT TRAINING SERVICES THROUGH THE COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM. DURING FY 2015, 401 PEOPLE WERE SERVED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM. GOODWILL INDUSTRIES WORKS AND ITS EMPLOYEES RECEIVE BENEFICIAL SUPPORT SERVICES FROM GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF KENTUCKY, INC. IN RETURN, ANY FUNDS NOT NEEDED TO OPERATE DONATED GOODS PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED TO GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF KENTUCKY, INC. AND ITS OTHER RELATED NON-PROFIT COMPANIES WHICH FINANCES NEW RETAIL STORES AND PROVIDES EMPLOYMENT TRAINING AND COUNSELING, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, PERSONAL SUPPORT SERVICES, LIFE SKILLS TRAINING, AND PLACEMENT SERVICES (THROUGH WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AND TEMPORARY STAFFING). THESE FUNDS ARE ALSO USED TO ELIMINATE TRANSPORTATION BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT AND TO PROVIDE GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES.
GOODWILL INDUSTRIES WORKS, INC. ALSO PROVIDED JOB OPPORTUNITIES, AND TRAINING FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES OR OTHER DISADVANTAGES THROUGH ITS GOOD SHRED DOCUMENT DESTRUCTION PROGRAM WHICH EMPLOYED 6 PEOPLE AND PAID $5,935 IN MISSION-RELATED WAGES.
