Organizations Filed Purposes: Our mission is to improve lives and our community by engaging people to give, advocate and volunteer. For more than 100 years, Metro United Way has been a volunteer-led organization that relies on the generosity of others to make the greatest impact in our region. We work with our partners to address root causes, dismantle inequities, and identify and implement solutions to reduce the gaps in income, education and healthy lives across Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby and Bullitt counties in Kentucky, and Harrison, Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana.

Metro United Way's mission is to improve lives and our community by engaging people to give, advocate and volunteer.

Graduates from our early childhood Excellence Academies outperformed their peers in kindergarten readiness measures for six straight years. In addition, youth who attended our high-quality BLOCS out-of-school time programs are 18% more likely to meet reading standards than students in lower quality out-of-school time programs. We also supported the educational success of boys of color at the W.E.B. Dubois Academy as well as the newest school for girls of color, Grace James Academy of Excellence.

Metro United Way's United Community, which connects those in need to health, education and social service organizations to improve the speed, reliability and accountability of referrals and care provisions between organizations, was instrumental in helping to gather, analyze and share real-time data on community need during the COVID pandemic, along with our 211 resource center. Our Build-a-Bed program provided beds to 150 children in need in Clark, Floyd & Harrison Counties in Indiana, and 50 children in Bullitt County in Kentucky. A good night's sleep is critical for physical and mental health, early childhood development and academic success.

We expanded critical financial independence work focused on financial and career coaching resulting in 2,200 people receiving job skills training -- 62% of whom found employment, and 80% increased their wages.
