Organizations Filed Purposes: NCFL works to eradicate poverty through education solutions for families. Partnering with educators, literacy advocates, and policymakers, NCFL develops and provides programming, professional development, and resources that empower and raise families to achieve their potential. Over our 30-year history, we have changed the lives of millions of families across the country. Engaging multiple generations from the same family has been a fundamental and distinguishing aspect of our work, because we know this holistic approach creates a stronger impact and greater success for families.

Our mission is to address our nation's literacy challenges by engaging all family members in learning, with a primary focus on parents and children living in poverty.

Family Literacy ProgramsNCFL's family literacy programs operate under the traditional, four component family literacy model and is federally defined. Family literacy includes adult education, early childhood education, parent education, and interactive parent-child activities. This place-based model is built on intensity and duraction of services and is focused on both child and adult outcomes.

Family and Child Education Program (FACE)The Family and Child Education (FACE) program serves American Indian families with children prenatal through 3rd grade by providing comprehensive family literacy services that include early childhood education, adult education, and parenting education. NCFL has contracted with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) to provide training/technical assistance to programs for more than 25 years. FACE has served nearly 45,000 participants since its inception and exists today in 44 BIE schools on reservations across the nation.
