THE YMCA HAS SERVED OUR COMMUNITY SINCE ITS CHARTER ON MAY 24, 1895. GOVERNED BY A LOCAL NON-PROFIT BOARD OF DIRECTORS, THE YMCA IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NATIONAL FEDERATION YMCA OF USA. THE VISION STATEMENT INTENDS TO PUT CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND, & BODY FOR ALL. SERVING ALL REGARDLESS OF ABILITY TO PAY, THE YMCA IS COMMITTED TO INCLUSIVENESS: REACHING OUT TO OLD & YOUNG; CREATING BRIDGES BETWEEN SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHASMS; PROGRAMMING HEALTHY OPPORTUNITIES TO THE FIT AND YET-TO-BE FIT; ASSISTING FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN; PROVIDING AQUATIC SAFETY; IMPACTING ANTI-SOCIAL AND/OR DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR OF YOUTH; CONNECTING WITH CHILDREN & ADULTS TO IMPROVE OBESITY RATES.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ALL IN TRUE NEED. NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY FROM MEMBERSHIP DUE TO INABILITY TO PAY. 75% OF THAT ASSISTANCE GOES TO FAMILIES AND YOUTH, WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON SINGLE PARENT FAMILIES.
SUMMER DAY CAMP PROVIDES SAFE CHILDCARE TO FAMILIES IN DAVIESS AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES SERVING HUNDREDS OF YOUTH EACH SUMMER. THE PROGRAM IS OFFERED DURING SUMMER WHILE SCHOOL IS OUT. FOR FAMILY CONVENIENCE THE PROGRAM IS OFFERED AT THE MAIN YMCA AND OTHER COUNTY FACILITIES (SCHOOLS AND/OR CHURCHES). SERVICE IS OFFERED WEEKDAYS FROM 6:30 A.M. TO 6:00 P.M. FAMILIES DEPEND ON THIS NEEDED SERVICE FOR LOW COST CHILDCARE. THE YMCA REACHES OUT TO SEVERAL REGARDLESS OF GENDER, FAITH, NATIONALITY, RACE, SOCIO ECONOMIC STATUS, OR DISABILITY. THE YMCA IS FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, HEALTHY LIVING, AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE SERVES YOUTH AND FAMILIES DAILY WITH STRUCTURED YOUTH CARE AFTER SCHOOL. STAFF OFFER DAILY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT LESSONS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, NUTRITION EDUCATION, AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT. THE YMCA COLLABORATES WITH ANOTHER YOUTH CARE AFTER SCHOOL PROVIDER TO SHARE RIDES FROM THE STUDENTS' SCHOOL TO THE APPROPRIATE YOUTH CENTER - SAVING, GAS, TIME, AND MONEY. ALL YOUTH ARE SERVED REGARDLESS OF ABILITY TO PAY.
