We help community foundations build strong communities by advancing effective practices, sharing knowledge and galvanizing action on critical issues of our time.
Galvanize community foundation action on critical community issues: Facilitated Asset Development Action Alliance, a community foundation network designed to help participants improve the financial security of low-income families through Childrens Savings Accounts. Launched second cohort of Equity Network - made up of 6 community foundation teams of staff, board members and community partners - developed in response to community and national foundation interest in advancing equity and a desire among community foundations to come together to better understand and make progress on the issue. Supported Coalition for Inclusive Communities initiative, made up of five community foundations striving to advance equity in the workplace and build community cohesion while serving as an interactive learning lab for participants. Explored community foundation interest in addressing gun violence.
Share knowledge: Increase field understanding of the value of community leadership as a core organizing strategy for community impact. Hosted 2019 Fall Forum for community foundation CEOs and board members. Launched new website and other communications tools. Staff spoke at a number of conferences and meetings about how community foundations are advancing their community leadership practice.
Build organizational capacity: Build understanding of community leadership among community foundation board, senior staff and partners; Create strong peer connections among community foundations; Influence the adoption of community leadership practices. Concluded cohorts of Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) for CEOs and ELI for VPs. Launched new ELI for VPs cohort. Piloted three sessions of Introduction to Community Leadership. Managed the activities of the Building Broader Communities in the Americas (BBCA), an initiative between U.S., Latin American and Canadian community foundations to build strong transnational communities, including a 3-day convening and site visit in Chicago.
