SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS' MISSION IS TO TEACH AND INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION TO IDENTIFY AND SOLVE REAL-WORLD PROBLEMS BY IMPROVING STEM LITERACY.

IN SCHOOL MODULE BASED STEM ENRICHMENT PROGRAM (SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS' FLAGSHIP PROGRAM IS THE IN-SCHOOL MODULE-BASED (ISMB) SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM) ENRICHMENT PROGRAM. IN THIS PROGRAM, SFS PARTNERS WITH ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS THAT SERVE STUDENTS IN OUR TARGET POPULATION: GRADES 3-8. SFS SENDS THE SAME TWO REAL, CHARISMATIC SCIENTISTS INTO EACH OF THESE PARTNER SCHOOLS TO SEE THE SAME GROUP OF STUDENTS EVERY OTHER WEEK THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR. DURING EACH OF THESE VISITS, SFS INSTRUCTORS COORDINATE WITH CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO SELECT ONE OF OUR 90+ ENGAGING HANDS-ON LESSONS IN STEM (TOPICS INCLUDE CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, BIOLOGY, COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING DESIGN, ETC.) TO PRESENT THAT DAY. ALL LESSONS ARE WRITTEN IN THE 5E INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL FOR INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING AND ARE INFORMED BY THE NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS (NGSS), THE NATIONAL K-12 FRAMEWORK FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION, AND THE MASSACHUSETTS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY/ENGINEERING (STE) FRAMEWORK. SOME SCHOOLS MAY SELECT AN ISMB EXPERIENCE THAT IS TAILORED TO SCIENCE FAIR. IN THESE INSTANCES, SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS INSTRUCTORS FROM THE ISMB PROGRAM ARE AVAILABLE TO ASSIST TEACHERS AND INSTRUCT STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-12 THROUGH THE SCIENCE FAIR PROCESS FROM START TO FINISH. STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD, EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN, DATA ANALYSIS, AND CREATING AN ATTRACTIVE, INFORMATIVE AND SUCCINCT DISPLAY USING LESSONS FROM THE ISMB PROGRAM. WE ARE ABLE TO OFFER SCHOOLS AID THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SCIENCE FAIR PROCESS BY: ADMINISTERING A SCIENCE FAIR, OFFERING ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE AS TUTORS, OR SERVING AS JUDGES.

SCIENTIST-TEACHER PARTNERSHIPTHE SCIENTIST-TEACHER PARTNERSHIP (STP) PROGRAM'S MISSION IS TO BUILD AND SUSTAIN TEACHER CONFIDENCE BY INTEGRATING SFS' FIELD-TESTED STEM ACTIVITIES INTO THE CLASSROOM WITH THE SUPPORT OF SCIENTISTS, EMPOWERING TEACHERS TO DESIGN STUDENT-CENTERED EXPLORATIONS AS PART OF THEIR CURRICULA. THIS PROGRAM OCCURS IN THREE PHASES. THE FIRST PHASE OF THE STP PROGRAM COMBINES CLASSROOM VISITS AND WORKSHOP TRAININGS TO PREPARE TEACHERS TO LEAD HANDS-ON STEM LESSONS WITH THE SUPPORT OF A SCIENTIST INSTRUCTOR. PHASE TWO OF THE PROGRAM COMBINES CLASSROOM SUPPORT AND COMMON PLANNING TIME BETWEEN ONE SCIENTIST INSTRUCTOR AND THE CLASSROOM TEACHER. PHASE THREE EXTENDS LESSON PLANNING SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH READILY IMPLEMENTABLE ACTIVITIES, A SUITE OF ADAPTABLE TEACHING STRATEGIES, AND THE SUPPORT OF THE SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS INSTRUCTIONAL TEAM.

SPECTACULABIN COLLABORATION WITH MURATA ELECTRONICS, SFS MASSBIOED'S BIOTEACH PROGRAM, SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS (SFS) HAS CREATED A UNIQUE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS. THE ALIGNED CURRICULAR AND CAREER EXPERIENCES IN SECONDARY SCIENCE (ACCESS) PROGRAM BRINGS TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS AND SCIENTISTS TOGETHER TO PROVIDE TEACHERS WITH VERTICALLY ALIGNED, HANDS-ON LIFE SCIENCE LAB SEQUENCES AND CAREER EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 7-10. LAB SEQUENCES COVER TOPICS SUCH AS BIOCHEMISTRY, PHOTOSYNTHESIS, OR GENETICS AND INCLUDE SEPARATE LESSON PLANS AND ACTIVITIES FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL AUDIENCES THAT INTRODUCE AND THEN LATER BUILD UPON KEY CONCEPTS AND LAB TECHNIQUES. ACCESS HOSTS WORKSHOPS FOR TEAMS OF MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS TO LEARN AND PRACTICE THE LAB SEQUENCES OF THEIR CHOICE, PROVIDES ACCESS TO THE MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, AND REAGENTS, AND SUPPORTS TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM WHEN THEY GO TO IMPLEMENT THE LABS FOR THE FIRST TIME. TO HIGHLIGHT THE REAL-WORLD APPLICATION OF THESE LAB SEQUENCES, COLLEGE AND CAREER EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS ARE COORDINATED BY THE ACCESS ADMINISTRATION TEAM (TWO STAFF EACH FROM SFS AND MASSBIOED). THESE EXPERIENCES INCLUDE IN-SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS FROM SCIENCE PROFESSIONALS OR FIELD TRIPS TO RELEVANT COMPANIES OR COLLEGE CAMPUSES.
