RPIs mission is to partner with local non-gov orgs and others to strengthen protection and self-reliance among refugees and displaced persons near conflict zones. RPI co-designs and oversees humanitarian efforts and provides partners with technical support.
Education and health We partnered with refugee-led Orgs to assist 14,927 refugees, internally displaced persons, & conflict-affected civilians under this program area. Out-of-school Syrian refugee children participated in education based on the core Lebanese curriculum and intensive English language training at 6 non-formal primary schools (3 schools per academic year) in informal temporary settlements in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. Community awareness was strengthened on medical and hygiene issues and on supporting childrens learning and emotional well-being. Planning was initiated on how to facilitate inclusive education for children with special needs. In war-torn Idlib, Syria, civilians accessed treatment at the Internal Medicine Specialty Hospital operated by our Turkey-based partner. We oversee, mentor, and fund these refugee-led projects thanks to our generous giving partners. Other expenses included program travel and planning for program expansion.
Housing (shelter) conditions We collaborated with our onsite refugee-led partners to improve shelter conditions among 6,518 refugees and IDPs. Rapid response projects implemented in northwest Syria by our Turkey-based partners gave families dry ground cover in 20 flood-affected informal tented settlements in Idlib and Aleppo, as well as heaters and eco-friendly heating and cooking fuel made of dried olive waste for urban IDPs. In mountainous northeast Lebanon, tarps were installed in emergency replacement shelters for Syrian refugees. In Antakya, a Turkish city near the Syrian border, refugee mothers and children were spared housing eviction through apartment rental subsidies linked with livelihoods support under the program area below. Under our 3 program areas, we provide our leading onsite grassroots partners with ongoing mentorship in rights-based humanitarian project design, proposal writing and reporting.
Protection & Self-reliance-We co-designed projects with our partners to meet empowerment priorities of 1,084 refugees. In 4 temp.settlements, Syrians were counseled on obtaining birth registration documentation for children born in Lebanon to facilitate access to services. Registration fee coverage and accompaniment were provided to the most vulnerable. In Antakya, Turkey, a project launched at years end went on to train single Syrian mothers in livelihood skills, Turkish language, and how to access work permits, temporary protection documentation, and public assistance. Mothers and children participated in psychosocial and hygiene support, as well as individual mental health sessions. Planning was initiated on how to support foreign brands and Turkish partners wishing to recruit and protect refugees in their supply chains. The education work discussed above included training and income for part-time refugee teachers, as well as psychosocial support for students.
