EMMANUEL MUSIC IS DEDICATED TO ENRICHING THE LIFE OF THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF MUSIC. EXPANDING ON A 40-YEAR TRADITION OF PRESENTING WEEKLY BACH CANTATAS IN A LITURGICAL SETTING, WE PERFORM CONCERT REPERTOIRE FROM BAROQUE TO CONTEMPORARY IN LARGE AND SMALL ENSEMBLES, INVITING AUDIENCES TO EXPLORE AND DISCOVER FAMILIAR AND UNFAMILIAR MASTERWORKS. THE COMMITMENT AND DISCIPLINE OF PERFORMING TOGETHER MORE THAN 50 TIMES A YEAR NURTURES A CORE OF ESTABLISHED AND EMERGING MUSICIANS AND FOSTERS UNPARALLELED ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE. IN OUR OUTREACH WE ARE COMMITTED TO TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF MUSICIANS, MENTORING YOUNG STUDENTS, AND INSPIRING BROAD AUDIENCES IN FREE CONCERTS, LECTURES, AND MASTER CLASSES.
ARTISTIC: THE SUNDAY CANTATA SERIES, THE HEART OF EMMANUEL MUSIC, CONTINUES, COORDINATING WITH THE WEEKLY EMMANUEL CHURCH LITURGY. WITH RYAN TURNER AS PRINCIPAL CONDUCTOR, GUEST CONDUCTORS INCLUDED MICHAEL BEATTIE, JOHN HARBISON, AND REUBEN VALENZUELA. IN ADDITION, A NUMBER OF SATURDAY CANTATA REHEARSALS WERE OPENED TO THE PUBLIC, DURING OUR BACH INSTITUTE, AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ARTWEEK BOSTON. THE EVENING CONCERT SERIES PRESENTED THREE CONCERTS. THE FALL CONCERT WAS ENTITLED "ALL HAIL ST. CECILIA AND WAS PRECEDED BY A TALK BY THERESA NEFF AND RYAN TURNER. THE SECOND EVENING CONCERT PRESENTED "BACH AND HARBISON", WITH A PRE-CONCERT TALK BY JOHN HARBISON AND RYAN TURNER. THE FINAL CONCERT OF THE SEASON WAS A SEMI-STAGED PRODUCTION OF BENJAMIN BRITTEN'S "A BEGGAR'S OPERA", A COLLABORATION WITH LONGY SCHOOL OF BARD COLLEGE, WITH A PRE-CONCERT TALK BY RYAN TURNER AND THERESA NEFF. A VERY SUCCESSFUL LENTEN NOONTIME RECITAL SERIES CONTINUED IN LESLIE LINDSEY CHAPEL FOR SIX WEEKS EXPLORING THE SOLO STRING WORKS OF BENJAMIN BRITTEN AND JOHN HARBISON. THE CHAMBER SERIES WAS REFORMATTED TO A WEEKEND FESTIVAL, AND BEGAN A TWO-YEAR EXPLORATION OF THE WORKS OF BENJAMIN BRITTEN. AGAIN, EMMANUEL MUSIC WAS PRESENTED AT BOSTON ATHENAEUM, FOR THEIR HOLIDAY CONCERT, AND FOR THE SECOND TIME, AT AERONAUT BREWERY, WITH A REPEAT PERFORMANCE OF DAVID LANG'S "THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL PASSION". ON OCTOBER 15, 2018 AN ENSEMBLE OF EMMANUEL MUSICIANS TRAVELED TO NEW HAMPSHIRE FOR A SPECIAL BBC RADIO 3 PRODUCTION ON NATURE, AND PERFORMED CHAMBER WORKS IN AN OUTDOOR SETTING. LATE NIGHT AT EMMANUEL, A MUSICIAN CURATED SERIES, CONTINUED WITH TWO PERFORMANCES, "A CELEBRATION OF JOHN HARBISON", FEATURING WORKS BY AND FOR JOHN HARBISON., AND "TANGO" WITH THE ARNEIS QUARTET AND A BANDONEON PLAYER.
