WE PROVIDE A COMBINATION OF TIME-TESTED AND INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS INCLUDING:- HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION FOR FAMILIES AT RISK OF LOSING THEIR HOMES- EMERGENCY SHELTER FOR FAMILIES WHO BECOME HOMELESS- AFFORDABLE HOUSING PLACEMENT FOR FAMILIES RETURNING TO PERMANENT HOUSING AFTER A PERIOD OF HOMELESSNESS OR HOUSING INSTABILITY. - STABELIZATION SERVICES TO KEEP FAMILIES IN THEIR PERMANENT HOUSING AND NOT FALL BACK INTO HOMELESSNESS.
FROM JULY 1, 2019 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2020, FAMILYAID BOSTON PROVIDED PREVENTION, SHELTER, AND HOUSING SUPPORT TO 2500 PARENTS AND CHILDREN, A MORE THAN 60% INCREASE OVER THE PREVIOUS YEAR. MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:- 1,860 CHILDREN AND PARENTS WERE PREVENTED FROM BECOMING HOMELESS (600 FAMILIES). - 687 CHILDREN AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS WERE PROVIDED EMERGENCY SHELTER. - 98 FAMILIES WERE MOVED OUT OF SHELTER/ UNSTABLE HOUSING INTO PERMANENT HOUSING.- 60% OF SHELTER AND DIVERSION FAMILIES WERE MOVED INTO PERMANENT, AFFORDABLE HOUSING (A 20% INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR, AND WELL ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE OF 25%).- 100% OF THOSE MOVED OUT OF SHELTER INTO HOUSING REMAINED STABLY HOUSED ONE YEAR LATER.- 90% OF THOSE WHO WENT THROUGH OUR HOMELESS PREVENTION PROGRAM REMAINED IN THEIR HOME A YEAR LATER. - 1,600 CHILDREN AND PARENTS RECEIVED WEEKLY HUMANITARIAN RELIEF OF FOOD AND ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES FROM THE OUTBREAK OF COVID-19 IN MARCH THROUGH THE SUMMER. RECOGNIZING THAT HOMELESSNESS HAS A PARTICULARLY NEGATIVE IMPACT ON CHILDREN, MUCH OF OUR WORK WITH FAMILIES CENTERS ON MEETING CHILDREN'S PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS. THROUGH INTENSIVE WORK WITH PARENTS, FAMILYAID BOSTON STRIVES TO NOT ONLY ENABLE THE PARENTS' SUCCESS, BUT HELP THEM TO CREATE ENVIRONMENTS IN WHICH THEIR CHILDREN CAN THRIVE.FAMILYAID BOSTON PREVENTS HOMELESSNESS FOR HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES WHO ARE REFERRED BY ITS PARTNERS - THE CITY OF BOSTON, BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS, BOSTON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, AND MARTHA ELLIOT HEALTH CENTER. FAMILYAID BOSTON RECOGNIZES THAT ANY SOLUTION TO THE FAMILY HOMELESSNESS CRISIS IN OUR COMMUNITY REQUIRES STRONG COLLABORATION AND PUBLIC/PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS. WE ARE PROUD TO COLLABORATE WITH FOUNDATION AND CORPORATE PARTNERS, OTHER NONPROFITS, STATE AND CITY AGENCIES, AND ADVOCACY GROUPS IN PURSUIT OF LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS TO FAMILY HOMELESSNESS IN OUR COMMUNITY.OVERALL 2,600 CHILDREN AND PARENTS WERE SERVED.
