THE MISSION OF MORGAN MEMORIAL GOODWILL INDUSTRIES (GOODWILL) IS TO HELP INDIVIDUALS WITH BARRIERS TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY TO ACHIEVE INDEPENDENCE AND DIGNITY THROUGH WORK. NOT CHARITY, BUT A CHANCE.

Goodwill is a leading provider of job training and career services in Massachusetts. Goodwill's mission services help individuals who faced barriers to self-sufficiency prepare for the workplace and create more rewarding and independent lives. In the year endED June 30, 2020, Goodwill served 5,235 individuals through its mission services. PLACEMENT-ORIENTED Job training programs enROLLED 351 individuals considered the hardest to employ offering case management, job-skills and job-readiness training, on-the-job-training, placement, and post-placement services and helped 109 find jobs. Goodwill's social enterprises provided work experience and a paycheck to 196 individuals in retail, housekeeping, and fulfillment. (The retail program is described in Part III 4b.) MassHire Boston Career Center, the one-stop career center Goodwill operates, assisted 4,699 individuals WITH career services and referrals to training programs, documented 631 placements, and engaged 141 businesses in 94 on-site AND VIRTUAL recruitment sessions. In addition, Goodwill offered a range of prevocational and other day programs to 119. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, IN LATE MARCH 2020 GOODWILL AND MASSHIRE PIVOTED TO VIRTUAL SERVICES AND NOW OFFER A HYBRID OF VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON SERVICES.
The retail program is a social enterprise that benefits the community by providing job training for individuals with barriers to employment; creating jobs; and making quality, low-cost goods available so that individuals, particularly those of limited means, get the items they need at affordable prices. In the year ended June 30, 2020, Goodwills retail program operated 19 Goodwill Stores and collected donations at 27 sites throughout Massachusetts. The retail program provided jobs and job training opportunities in collecting, sorting, distributing, merchandising, and selling donated clothing, household goods, and computers. It made interview attire and accessories available free of charge to 329 job trainees from Goodwill and other community-based job training programs to help them secure jobs. In addition, it made clothing and other goods available to local non-profit organizations also serving individuals in need. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, IN LATE MARCH 2020 GOODWILL TEMPORARILY CLOSED ITS RETAIL STORES AND THEN REOPENED THEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GOVENOR OF MASSACHUSETTS' EMERGENCY ORDERS.
