Organizations Filed Purposes: TO END NEIGHBORHOOD VIOLANCE BY PROVIDING EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE BEEN IMPACTED BY VIOLANCE AND ARE AT-RISK OF BECOMING A VICTIM OR PERPETRATOR OF VIOLENCE.

ENGAGEMENT: IN 2020, MJE IS PROUD TO HAVE MAINTAINED OUR CONTRACTS AND FUNDING RELATIONSHIPS THAT ARE CRITICAL TO PROVIDING SERVICES. HIGHLIGHTS IN 2020 INCLUDE: -NEW CONTRACT WITH DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH SERVICES LEAD PROGRAM TO SUPPORT SYSTEM-INVOLVED YOUTH ONE-ON-ONE. -CITY OF BOSTON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT DOUBLED. -CITY OF BOSTON NEIGHBORHOOD JOBS TRUST (NJT) CONTRACT EXTENDED. -IN 2018, MJE WON ONE OF NINE STATEWIDE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM CONTRACTS WHICH HAS BEEN TRANSFORMATIONAL FOR THE AGENCY. IN 2020, MJE PROVIDED 1,485 INDIVIDUALS WITH 3,517 SERVICES. 67% ADULTS AND 33% YOUTH (AGES 0-24); 75% FEMALE, 25% MALE. AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS, AND KEEPING TO OUR MISSION, ALMOST ALL CLIENTS WERE VICTIMS OF HOMICIDE, WITH CO-OCCURRING INSTANCES OF DOMESTIC ABUSE, FAMILY VIOLENCE, IDENTITY THEFT, FINANCIAL THEFT, CHILD PHYSICAL ABUSE/NEGLECT, BURGLARY, BULLYING, AND ELDER ABUSE. MJE PROVIDES ADULT AND YOUTH PROGRAMS AS WELL AS EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND HEALTH AND WELLNESS WITH A GOAL OF SUPPORTING CLIENTS AS THEY WORK TO ATTAIN ECONOMIC STABILITY. THE AGENCY'S FULL MENU OF TRAINING SERVICES INCLUDES: -YOU MATTER PERSONAL LEADERSHIP -FINANCIAL LITERACY -WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND JOB READINESS -CASE MANAGEMENT AND MENTORING -COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND OUTREACH EMERGECNY SERVICES - COVID-19 RESPONSE SINCE MARCH 2020, MJE HAS BEEN PROVIDING ALL SERVICES ON-LINE - WORKSHOPS, CASE MANAGEMENT, CLINICAL REFERRALS, AND GROUP DISCUSSION. IN ADDITION, WE ARE SUPPORTING CLIENTS WITH WEEKLY GROCERY DELIVERY, GIFT CARDS, AND PHONE CALLS. MJE WAS PROFILED IN THE CITY OF BOSTON'S OFFICE OF WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT E-NEWSLETTER IN APRIL 2020 FOR OUR PIVOT TO VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING: "INTERGENERATIONAL SUPPORT GOES FROM STAGGERED TO SIMULTANEOUS" EMERGENCY SERVICES HAVE INCLUDED: -SUPPORT FOR 50 FAMILIES WEEKLY WITH GROCERIES OR GIFT CARDS TARGETING ISOLATED AND ELDERLY RESIDENTS. -HOSTING A MONTHLY COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS WEBINAR FOR AN AVERAGE OF 20-30 MJE CLIENTS, PHONE BANKING/EMAIL COMMUNICATION WITH APPROXIMATELY 150 CLIENTS EACH WEEK, AND ONLINE WORKSHOPS ONLINE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE GROVE HALL LIBRARY FOR SENIORS.

EDUCATION: ADULT SERVICES THE MISSION OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF TRAUMA WHO ARE FACING CHRONIC UNEMPLOYMENT SO THAT THEY CAN BECOME A FORCE FOR COMMUNITY ACTION AND A CANDIDATE TO RE-ENTER THE WORKFORCE. IN 2020, 1,000 ADULT (AGE 24+) CLIENTS RECEIVED SERVICES COMPRISING 67% OF TOTAL AGENCY SERVICES. MJE SERVED 20 CLIENTS IN THE PRISON, PRIOR TO COVID-19 WHEN THIS SERVICE ENDED DUE TO SAFETY REQUIREMENTS. 41% OF TOTAL CLIENTS SERVED REQUIRED EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE. MJE PROVIDED 1,500 HOURS OF CASE MANAGEMENT. OF THE 250 CLIENTS WHO PARTICIPATED IN WORKFORCE TRAINING: -76% WERE PLACED IN JOBS -28% WERE PLACED IN INTERNSHIPS -20% ENROLLED IN HIGHER EDUCATION OR CAREER CERTIFICATION YOUTH SERVICES THE MISSION OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO SUPPORT YOUNG PEOPLE IN THEIR ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT TO ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE NURTURING, LEARNING SPACE, AND HEALING TOOLS, TO DEVELOP THEIR TRUE TALENTS. SUSTAINABLE EMPLOYMENT AND HISET/HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA ATTAINMENT ARE THE PRIMARY GOAL, BUT WE WILL ALSO EXPLORE CERTIFICATION AND COLLEGE PROGRAMS DEPENDING ON INTEREST AND ABILITY OF EACH PARTICIPANT. 485 YOUTH CLIENTS (AGE 0-24) WERE SERVED THIS YEAR COMPRISING 33% OF TOTAL AGENCY SERVICES THIS YEAR. 200 CLIENTS WERE AGE 16-24, SUPPORTED THROUGH DTA, DYS AND RELATED PARTNERSHIPS -25% OBTAINED HISET/ON TRACK TO GRADUATE ON TIME -50% ENROLLED IN HIGHER EDUCATION/CAREER CERTIFICATION -12.5% GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL -20% WERE PLACED IN INTERNSHIPS -30% WERE PLACED IN JOBS 100 CLIENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL ATTENDED YOUTH PEER LEADERSHIP -100% ENROLLED IN BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS -100% MAINTAINED C OR ABOVE GRADE POINT AVERAGE -300 HOURS OF WORKSHOPS ATTENDED 185 ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH ATTENDED 740 STEM WORKSHOPS. HEALTH AND WELLNESS MJE SUPPORTS CLIENTS WITH HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS INCLUDING SUPPORT GROUPS, PHYSICAL FITNESS ACTIVITIES, COOKING AND NUTRITION PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS IMPROVED FOOD ACCESS AND ACCESS TO OTHER RESOURCES. IN 2020 PROGRAMS INCLUDED HEALING THROUGH THE ARTS SUPPORT GROUP, TRAUMA RESILIENCY LISTENING SESSIONS, AND BE FIT FITNESS PROGRAMS.
