Organizations Filed Purposes: TO COMBAT COMMUNITY DETERIORATION IN THE BACK BAY NEIGHBORHOOD OF BOSTON, TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT THE ARCHITECTURAL BEAUTY OF THE BACK BAY, AND TO FURTHER THE RESIDENTIAL CHARACTER OF THE BACK BAY.

MEMBER COMMUNICATIONS & MEETINGS - NABB EDUCATES ITS MEMBERS THROUGH MEETINGS, EMAILS AND MONTHLY BULLETINS OF ACTIVITIES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THAT MAY AFFECT THE ARCHITECTURAL BEAUTY OF THE BACK BAY AND ITS RESIDENTIAL CHARACTER. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE NEW CONSTRUCTION, RENOVATION AND BUILDING REPAIR PROJECTS, AS WELL AS NEW BUSINESSES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. NABB HAS MONTHLY MEETINGS OF ITS ARCHITECTURE, DEVELOPMENT & TRANSPORTATION AND LICENSING & BUILDING USE COMMITTEES WHERE PROPONENTS ARE INVITED TO MAKE PRESENTATIONS AND RECEIVE FEEDBACK FROM THE COMMUNITY REGARDING THEIR PLANS. NABB ALSO PARTICIPATES IN HEARINGS BEFORE THE BACK BAY ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSION, THE BOSTON LICENSING BOARD, AND OTHER LOCAL PUBLIC BODIES WHERE IT PROVIDES COMMUNITY INPUT REGARDING RELATED ACTIVITIES. NABB ALSO HOSTS NEIGHBORHOOD FORUMS WHERE INDIVIDUALS ARE INVITED TO MAKE PRESENTATIONS TO EDUCATE NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS ABOUT MATTERS OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE.

DONATIONS MADE TO THE COMMONWEALTH AVENUE MALL TREE FUND AND THE COMMONWEALTH AVENUE MALL ENDOWMENT FUND OF THE FRIENDS OF THE PUBLIC GARDEN, INC., ANOTHER NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FOR THE IMPROVEMENT, PRESERVATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE COMMONWEALTH AVENUE MALL. THE COMMONWEALTH AVENUE MALL TREE FUND HAS BEN ESTABLISHED FOR THE PURPOSE OF TREE CARING AND PLANTING FOR THE COMMONWEALTH AVENUE MALL. THE COMMONWEALTH AVENUE MALL ENDOWMENT FUND HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR THE CARE AND PRESERVATION OF THE COMMONWEALTH AVENUE MALL. EXPENDITURES FROM THE FUNDS ARE MADE ONLY AS AUTHORIZED OR RECOMMENDED BY THE COMMONWEALTH AVENUE MALL COMMITTEE. ONE-HALF OF THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE ARE APPOINTED BY THE ASSOCIATION AND THE OTHER HALF ARE APPOINTED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE PUBLIC GARDEN, INC.

NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANING - THE ASSOCIATION HAS A GRAFFITI NABBERS GROUP THAT REPORTS AND REMOVES GRAFFITI AND OTHER ILLEGAL POSTING FROM BACK BAY BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES ON AN ONGOING BASIS.PUBLIC SAFETY EDUCATION AND CRIME PREVENTION - THE ASSOCIATION HAS A PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE THAT SUPPORTS THE COMMUNITY POLICING INITIATIVE OF THE BOSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT, PRIMARILY BY SPONSORING MONTHLY MEETINGS WITH THE BOSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT AND OTHER CITY DEPARTMENTS TO DISCUSS VARIOUS ISSUES ABOUT CRIME AND OTHER SAFETY-RELATED SUBJECTS IN THE BACK BAY.GREEN INITIATIVES - THE ASSOCIATION HAS A GREEN COMMITTEE THAT HOSTS SPEAKERS AND PROVIDES INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE TO NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS TO HELP THEM MINIMIZE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO CLIMATE CHANGE THROUGH ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCE CONSERVATION.HOMELESSNESS TASK FORCE - IN 2019, THE ASSOCIATION ESTABLISHED A HOMELESSNESS TASK FORCE TO ADDRESS THE GROWING ISSUE OF THE IMPACT OF THE HOMELESS. THE TASK FORCE ORGANIZED AN INFORMATION FORUM HELD IN THE CENTRAL BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF THE POLICE, THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY, CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS, AND FORMERLY HOMELESS TO PROVIDE INSIGHTS AND GUIDANCE INTO HOW VARIOUS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR RESOURCES ARE COOPERATING TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THE HOMELESS AS WELL AS ALLEVIATE RISKS TO PUBLIC SAFETY ARISING FROM THE USE OF DRUGS AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF HOMELESSNESS, AND OFFER ADVICE AS TO HOW RESIDENTS SHOULD RESPOND WHEN INTERACTING WITH HOMELESS PERSONS.
