AS SUCH, SVP BOSTON IS A CATALYST FOR CHARITABLE GIVING AND FOR MAKING CHARITABLE GIFTS MORE EFFECTIVELY IN THE BOSTON AREA.

GRANTMAKING: TO HELP ITS PORTFOLIO OF CAREFULLY SELECTED NONPROFITS BUILD THEIR CAPACITY TO DELIVER MEANINGFUL SOCIAL IMPACT, SVP PROVIDES VOLUNTEER EXPERTISE ALONGSIDE GENERAL OPERATING SUPPORT GRANTS. THE GRANTS ARE TYPICALLY USED BY THESE NONPROFITS TO MAKE INVESTMENTS IN STAFF, PROCESSES, OR SYSTEMS THAT WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE NONPROFITS' LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY OR GROWTH.

NONPROFIT CAPACITY BUILDING: SVP BOSTON SUPPORTS CAPACITY BUILDING FOR ITS INVESTEES BY PROVIDING CASH GRANTS AND SKILLED VOLUNTEERS. SVP BOSTON HELPS NONPROFITS BE AS EFFECTIVE AS POSSIBLE IN DELIVERING THEIR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES BY HELPING TO BUILD THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY. SVP BOSTON DEFINES ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING AS THE DEVELOPMENT OF CORE SKILLS, MANAGEMENT PRACTICES, STRATEGIES, AND SYSTEMS TO ENHANCE AN ORGANIZATION'S EFFECTIVENESS, SUSTAINABILITY, AND ABILITY TO FULFILL ITS MISSION. IN THE YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2018, SVP BOSTON ESTIMATES THAT ITS PARTNERS DONATED APPROXIMATELY 3,196 HOURS TO THESE NONPROFITS. BASED ON AN AVERAGE RATE OF $150 FOR PRO BONO BUSINESS CONSULTING SERVICES, WHICH IS BENCHMARKED AGAINST INDUSTRY STANDARDS, SVP BOSTON ESTIMATES THAT THE VALUE OF ITS VOLUNTEERING WAS APPROXIMATELY $479,400. THIS AMOUNT OF IN-KIND SERVICES IS NOT INCLUDED AS A PROGRAM EXPENSE IN THE NUMBERS REPORTED ON THIS FORM 990.

PHILANTHROPY DEVELOPMENT: SVP BOSTON PROVIDES WORKSHOPS, SEMINARS, AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ITS PARTNERS IN ORDER TO (1) INCREASE THEIR USE OF STRATEGIC GIVING STRATEGIES; (2) INCREASE ENGAGEMENT IN THEIR COMMUNITIES; AND (3) INCREASE THEIR AMOUNT OF GIVING.
