Organizations Filed Purposes: EARTHWATCH INSTITUTE IS AN INTERNATIONAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT CONNECTS CITIZENS WITH SCIENTISTS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE PLANET. SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1971, EARTHWATCH HAS EMPOWERED OVER 100,000 VOLUNTEERS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE TO JOIN LEADING SCIENTISTS ON FIELD RESEARCH EXPEDITIONS THAT TACKLE CRITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES AROUND THE GLOBE-FROM CLIMATE CHANGE TO OCEAN HEALTH TO HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT. EARTHWATCH WORKS WITH ALL SECTORS OF SOCIETY, INCLUDING CORPORATIONS, TEACHERS, STUDENTS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, ZOOS, AND AQUARIA.

EARTHWATCH'S PROGRAMS INVOLVE A GLOBAL COMMUNITY OF RESEARCHERS, CONSERVATION VOLUNTEERS, EDUCATORS, STUDENTS, NGO'S AND BUSINESSES WORKING TOGETHER TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT. THROUGH ITS EXPEDITIONS, EARTHWATCH ENGAGES INDIVIDUALS IN HANDS-ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH ALONGSIDE LEADING SCIENTISTS WHERE THEY ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH THAT CONTRIBUTES TO THE UNDERSTANDING OF ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES. IN 2019, ITS PROGRAMS SUPPORTED APPROXIMATELY 43 FIELD-RESEARCH PROJECTS ACROSS 22 COUNTRIES. APPROXIMATELY 2,100 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED ON EARTHWATCH FIELD PROJECTS DURING THE 12 MONTHS ENDED SEPTEMBER 30, 2019. THIS HAS ENABLED OUR AFFILIATED SCIENTISTS TO PRODUCE AN ESTIMATED 47 PEER-REVIEWED PUBLICATIONS AND CONTRIBUTE TO OVER 40 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLANS AND POLICIES DURING 2019. FORMERLY SUPPORTED SCIENTISTS ALSO CONTINUE TO PUBLISH ON THEIR RESEARCH, AND WHILE THESE ARE HARDER TO EFFECTIVELY DOCUMENT, THEY WOULD MORE THAN DOUBLE THE NUMBER OF PUBLICATIONS FROM CURRENTLY SUPPORTED SCIENTISTS. EARTHWATCH IS DEDICATED TO CREATING AN ENVIRONMENTAL LEGACY THROUGH ITS RESEARCH PROJECTS, EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND HANDS-ON VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN FIELD RESEARCH.PARTICIPANTS TO OUR PROGRAM INCLUDE TEACHERS, STUDENTS, CORPORATE EMPLOYEES AND MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED SEPTEMBER 30, 2019, APPROXIMATELY 47 TEACHERS AND 132 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN OUR PROGRAMS. SURVEYS CONDUCTED ON BEHALF OF EARTHWATCH INDICATE THAT THESE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WERE PROFOUNDLY IMPACTED BY THEIR EARTHWATCH EXPERIENCE. OVER 90% OF STUDENTS REPORTED THAT THEIR PARTICIPATION IN OUR PROGRAM HAS:- INCREASED THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THE PROJECT RELATES TO GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES- INCREASED THEIR ABILITY TO MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THEIR STUDIES AND LOCAL AND GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES- IMPROVED THEIR PERCEPTION OF SCIENCE, FIELD RESEARCH AND SCIENTISTS100% OF TEACHERS REPORTED THAT THEIR PARTICIPATION IN OUR PROGRAM HAS:- INCREASED THEIR CONFIDENCE AND ABILITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT OR COMMUNITY- PROVIDED THEM WITH AN EXPERIENCE THAT WILL BE USEFUL IN THEIR TEACHING- PROVIDED THEM WITH AN EXPERIENCE THAT CAN SERVE AS AN INSPIRATION FOR THEIR STUDENTSEARTHWATCH INSTITUTE HAS PARTNERSHIPS WITH SEVERAL CORPORATE DONORS INCLUDING HSBC, ALCOA, UPS, IBM AND ERNST AND YOUNG ENABLING THEM TO SEND THEIR STAFF ON EARTHWATCH FIELD RESEARCH PROGRAM WORLDWIDE FOR HANDS ON EXPERIENCE AND ENGAGEMENT IN ISSUES OF ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS, CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY AND INCORPORATING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES INTO THE COMPANY'S CULTURE IN ORDER TO MEET THEIR INTERNALLY DRIVEN SUSTAINABILITY GOALS.
