The mission of EqualHealth is to inspire, empower, and support the development of leaders among Haiti's next generation of health professionals.
Social Medicine Course: In July 2019 we held our seventh annual Social Medicine Course: Beyond the Biological Basis of Disease. This virtual course brings together and exchange of Haitian and International health trainees for three weeks of intensive immersion learning. The course offers the tools and network to address pressing global health needs in their future practice.
Medical Education Fellowship and Leadership Development Program: This fellowship is designed to equip a cadre of physicians with the skills necessary to be leaders in their field in Haiti. They spend three months in Boston academic medical centers receiving mentorship and participating and administrative management and training. In Haiti they undertake a quality improvement project at their home institutions. In parallel a Leadership Development Program led by EqualHealth staff addresses operational improvements at the home institution. To date we have hosted 9 fellows who continue to be partners with EqualHealth upon their return to Haiti.
Annual Haiti-based Education Conference: In November 2019 EqualHealth planned our eighth annual national conference intending to convene more than 250 Haitian students, practitioners, and educators to collaborate, learn and network at an intensive all day meeting in Port-au-Prince. We were forced to cancel the conference in the days immediately preceding due to political unrest in Haiti. Many of the costs were born despite the cancellation, including allocation of staff who spent months planning.
