Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MARANYUNDO INITIATIVE'S MISSION IS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE FOR GIRLS FROM ECONOMICALLY VULNERABLE FAMILIES IN RWANDA THROUGH SUPPORT OF THE MARANYUNDO GIRLS SCHOOL.

THE ORGANIZATION SUPPORTS THE MARANYUNDO GIRLS SCHOOL IN ITS MISSION TO OFFER ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE TO STUDENTS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS.

THE ORGANIZATION SUPPORTS THE MARANYUNDO GIRLS SCHOOL IN ITS MISSION TO OFFER ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE TO STUDENTS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS. IN 2000 A PARTNERSHIP WAS FORMED WITH A SMALL GROUP OF WOMEN IN BOSTON AND IN 2008 A BEAUTIFUL SCHOOL OPENED ITS DOORS. THE ORGANIZATION RAN THE SCHOOL FROM IT'S OPENING IN 2008 UNTIL JANUARY OF 2011, WHEN TO FULFILL THE ORIGINAL VISION OF THIS BEING A FULLY RWANDAN SCHOOL, THE ORGANIZATION TOOK THE UNUSUAL STEP OF TRANSFERRING THE SCHOOL TO RWANDAN LEADERSHIP BY VOTING FULL OWNERSHIP AND OPERATION TO THE BENEBIKIRA CONGREGATION, A RWANDAN ORDER OF CATHOLIC NUNS. THE MARANYUNDO GIRLS SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IS A SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE IN NYAMATA, RWANDA DEDICATED TO THE BELIEF THAT EVERY GIRL, REGARDLESS OF FAMILY FINANCES OR BACKGROUND CAN ACHIEVE GREAT THINGS. OPENED AS A MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR 180 GIRLS IN 2008, IT QUICKLY ACHIEVED A NATIONAL REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENCE, AND HAS RANKED IN THE TOP TIER OF MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY EVERY YEAR SINCE ITS FIRST CLASS GRADUATED IN 2010. THIS IS A REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT FOR A SCHOOL WHERE A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF ITS STUDENTS COME FROM IMPOVERISHED CIRCUMSTANCES AND UNDER-PERFORMING SCHOOLS. IN 2013, DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF THE SCHOOL AND REQUESTS FROM STUDENTS AND PARENTS ALIKE, THE ORGANIZATION RAISED THE FUNDS SO THAT THE SCHOOL COULD BEGIN AN EXPANSION TO ADD A STEM HIGH SCHOOL TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. AFTER COMPLETION IN JANUARY 2017, THE SCHOOL HAS A TOTAL ANNUAL ENROLLMENT OF 360 STUDENTS AND SEVERAL NEW BUILDINGS ON CAMPUS, INCLUDING NEW CLASSROOMS, DORMITORY, AS WELL AS A NEW LIBRARY AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER WHICH INCLUDES NEW SCIENCE AND COMPUTER LABORATORIES. YEARLY GRANTS FROM THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS AND PROVIDE EXPERTISE AND SPECIAL PROGRAMMING FOR TEACHER TRAINING SO THAT THE MGS CAN BECOME A MODEL SCHOOL FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. WE BELIEVE THAT ALL YOUNG WOMEN SHOULD HAVE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF EDUCATION, USE HER EDUCATION TO BECOME A LEADER IN HER COMMUNITY AND HER NATION AND BE ABLE TO PURSUE ANY CAREER THAT SHE DESIRES. MARANYUNDO GIRLS SCHOOL ACCEPTS AT LEAST 50% OF ITS STUDENTS FROM ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES. SUPPORT FROM THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE SCHOOL TO OFFSET TUITION TO MAKE SURE THAT NO STUDENT IS TURNED AWAY BECAUSE THEY ARE UNABLE TO PAY. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION SPONSORS TEACHING FELLOWS, VOLUNTEERS, AND EDUCATION CONSULTANTS FOR STAYS OF VARYING LENGTHS AT THE SCHOOL TO SUPPORT TEACHER AND STAFF TRAINING AND MENTORING, STUDENT TEACHING AND TUTORING, AND COLLEGE PREP SERVICES.
