EDUCATION ON HOMELESSNESS AND SUPPORT TO THE HOMELESS
Furniture Bank: This past year over 9,500 men, women and children who received some form of assistance from one of the Furniture Bank initiatives. 1,462 households accessed furnish their apartments making what was four empty walls into a place that they are able to build memories. 940 children received a new twin bed along with all the linens from A Bed for Every Child Initiative and 169 individuals and children living with some form of a chronic respiratory issues received help in making their apartments a better place to live in breathe through the Room to Breathe and thousands of teens received assistance with personal hygiene products through the Teen Care Initiative.
EDUCATION: The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless has a rich three-decade history as a leader in the fight to prevent and end homelessness here in the Commonwealth. The agency is steadfast in our belief that homelessness can be resolved by supplying safe, affordable, permanent housing for the lowest income housholds and providing opportunities for families and individuals to build economic stability. To achieve these goals, the Coalition and our members undertake campaigns in support of affordable housing, income and benefit programs, access to education, and emergency shelter.
HOMELINK INITIATIVE: One of the keys that are needed to assist families and individuals from losing their homes are for them to access homeless prevention services easily. The HomeLink Initiative has create a network where early intervention can occur at the first sign of a housing crisis- thus ensuring that affective intervention can be provided to the household in an effective manner that can support stabilizing their housing crisis and minimizing the pontential loss of housing. The Homelink Initiative was created with the main goal of embedding homelessness into existing services that households already access, such as schools, health centers, and home visiting nurse and social workers. Through this type of collaboration, HomeLink has begun to create an effective early warning system that has proven to reach at-risk households before they become homeless.
