Maria, Regina d'Inghilterra: November 1, 2019 , November 3, 2019 * The opera was inspired by a play by Victor Hugo and has largely been overlooked throughout history. * Pacini is one of the missing links in Italian opera of the first part of the 19th century. He produced more than 70 operas and yet has faded into oblivion. Pacini wrote happily within the formal conventions of Italian opera in his time; perhaps, this is why he remains largely in the shadows, especially of his colleagues: Verdi, Bellini and Donizetti. - Gil Rose

Henry VIII, September 21, 2019 * Continued the tradition of opening the season with a lesser known French Grand Opera. * Having discovered 51 minutes excised from the debut performance in Paris, on September 21st Rose led in concert form what he believes to be the US premiere of the uncut Henry VIII (1883) at Jordan Hall.
