Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION IS TO EMPOWER WOMEN AND GIRLS AND THEIR FAMILIES, AND TO ELIMINATE RACISM. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS, THE YWCA PROVIDES A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES IN FOUR AREAS: ADULT, YOUTH, HEALTH, AND RESIDENTIAL.
TO EMPOWER WOMEN, GIRLS AND THEIR FAMILIES, AND TO ELIMINATE RACISM.
YWCA YOUTH SERVICES: YWKIDS SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM SERVES FAMILIES IN NEED OF QUALITY CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN AGE 5-13. YWKIDS STAFF STRIVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE, RESPECT AND DESIGN WAYS TO ACCOMMODATE THE UNIQUENESS OF EACH CHILD SO THAT ALL MAY REACH THEIR FULLEST POTENTIAL. YWKIDS SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM IS LICENSED BY THE MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF EARLY EDUCATION AND CARE. GIRLS EXCLUSIVE IS AN EXCITING PROGRAM FOR GIRLS AGES 10 TO 14 GIRLS EXPLORE THEIR SELF-IDENTITY, LEARN ABOUT NUTRITION, MAINTAINING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, LEARNING ABOUT BEING HOME ALONE, BABYSITTING, ETIQUETTE, SELF-ESTEEM, FINANCIAL LITERACY, AND RACIAL JUSTICE. THE PROGRAM MOTIVATES GIRLS TO STAY IN SCHOOL AND APPLY THEMSELVES TO THEIR STUDIES TO THE BEST OF THEIR INDIVIDUAL ABILITY. THEY LEARN ABOUT CAREERS AND THE NECESSARY EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR FUTURE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. MAYOR'S YOUTH COUNCIL WAS CREATED TO BE THE EYES AND EARS OF CITY YOUTH IN AN ADVISORY CAPACITY TO THE MAYOR AND CITY GOVERNMENT. THE COUNCIL ASSISTS CITY OFFICIALS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITY PROJECTS FROM A YOUTH'S PERSPECTIVE. THE COUNCIL ADDRESSES LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AS WELL AS YOUTH INVOLVEMENT AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CITY PROJECTS. PARTICIPANTS ARE IN GRADES 9-12 AND LEARN LEADERSHIP SKILLS, ADVOCACY, PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION, PUBLIC SPEAKING, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.
SPECIFIC PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE MISSION IMPACT PROGRAMS OF RACIAL JUSTICE AND ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT, WIDOWED PERSONS PROGRAM, HEALTH AND WELLNESS INCLUDES HEALTH PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES WITH AN EMPHASIS ON BREAST, COLON, PROSTATE AND CERVICAL CANCER PREVENTION, DIABETES, CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE, AND NUTRITION. RESIDENTIAL SERVICES INCLUDES SINGLE ROOM OCCUPANCY LIVING FACILITIES FOR WOMEN AGE 18 AND OVER AT A WOMAN'S PLACE. LEADING LADIES LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR WOMEN 18-30.
