CBHFH IS A VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION PARTNERING WITH FAMILIES IN NEED TO BUILD OR REHABILITATE SIMPLE DECENT HOUSES FOR HOME OWNERSHIP. PEOPLE OF ALL FAITHS ARE INVITED TO JOIN CBHFH. CBHFH STRIVES TO WORK WITH FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES, RECOGNIZING THEIR DIVERSE NEEDS AND CONTRIBUTIONS.
THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR HOMEOWNERSHIP TO ELIGIBLE FAMILIES IN THE CENTRAL BERKSHIRE COUNTY AREA, INCLUDING PITTSFIELD, DALTON, HANCOCK, LANESBOROUGH, LEE, LENOX, PERU, RICHMOND, AND WINDSOR MASSACHUSETTS. EACH HABITAT FAMILY HELPS REHABILITATE OR BUILD THEIR OWN HOME BY PROVIDING AT LEAST 400 HOURS OF SWEAT EQUITY. WHEN THE HOMES ARE COMPLETE, THE ORGANIZATION SELLS THEM TO THE FAMILIES FOR AN AFFORDABLE PRICE WHICH IS EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN THE FINAL ACCUMULATED DEVELOPMENT VALUE OF THE PROPERTIES AND ALSO PROVIDES THE FAMILIES WITH A NON-INTEREST BEARING MORTGAGE LOAN. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES TECHNICAL HOUSING SERVICES, HOUSING PROGRAM AND POLICY ASSISTANCE, AND RESEARCH AND INFORMATION SERVICES TO LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS THAT WISH TO BUILD, REPAIR, RENOVATE, RELOCATE HOMES, OR TO PURCHASE AND PREPARE SITES.
RESTORE PROGRAM: THE RESTORE WAS OPENED IN MARCH 2009 TO SELL DONATED BUILDING SUPPLIES, WOODEN FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES TO THE PUBLIC WITH ALL OF THE FUNDS USED TO SUPPORT THE BUILDING OF HOMES AND PROGRAMS. THE RESTORE IS STAFFED BY EMPLOYEES AND VOLUNTEERS AND ALL GOODS SOLD HAVE BEEN DONATED.
WORKING CITIES INITIATIVE - A SERIES OF IDEAS, BOOKS, AND TOOLS THAT BRING PEOPLE FROM ALL ECONOMIC CLASSES TOGETHER TO ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSES OF POVERTY AND SUPPORT THEIR JOURNEY TO MIDDLE CLASS. THE PROGRAM OFFERS TOOLS TO HELP EMPLOYERS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES, AND INDIVIDUALS BUILD INDIVIDUAL ASSETS, BUILD COMMUNITY ASSETS (HUMAN AND SOCIAL CAPITAL), AND REALIZE AND REDUCE EXPLOITATION.
