Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE BOSTON EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION, INC. (BEDF) IS THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION FOR THE BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS (BPS). AS THE FISCAL AGENT, NON-PROFIT PARTNER OF BPS, BEDF ENABLES A WIDE RANGE OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES OPERATED BY BPS SCHOOLS AND DEPARTMENTS. THE MAJORITY OF BEDF FUNDING REVENUES COME FROM LOCAL AND NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY, SUCH AS FOUNDATIONS, CORPORATIONS AND INDIVIDUAL DONORS. THIS FUNDING SUSTAINS AND EXPANDS EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES THAT MAY OTHERWISE BE UNAVAILABLE, SUCH AS SCHOOL PROGRAMMING FOR STUDENTS, LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR EDUCATORS, AND ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES.
PROGRAM: STEM & CAREER READINESSDESCRIPTION: THIS PROGRAM EMPOWERED STUDENTS BY PROVIDING ACCESS TO NECESSARY LEARNING EXPERIENCES TO SUCCESSFULLY JOIN THE WORKFORCE OF TOMORROW. THE PROGRAM OFFERED COLLEGE AND CAREER EXPERIENCES TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR STEM EDUCATORS, ENHANCEMENT OF STEM CURRICULA ALONG WITH ENGAGEMENT WITH STEM PROFESSIONALS TO SHARE THE VISION AND SKILLSET OF THE 21ST CENTURY LEARNING.
PROGRAM: HUMAN CAPITAL INITIATIVEDESCRIPTION: THIS INITIATIVE HAS ENABLED SCHOOLS TO INCREASE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EARLY HIRING AND ALLOWED THEM TO COMPETITIVELY RECRUIT THE MOST TALENTED AND DIVERSE TEACHERS EARLY IN THE SEASON. IT COMPRISES A PORTFOLIO OF INTERNALLY RUN TEACHER PIPELINE PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE MULTIPLE ENTRY POINTS FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF EDUCATORS. MOREOVER, IT HAS FURTHER DEVELOPED A COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION SYSTEM THAT GIVES TEACHERS MORE FREQUENT FEEDBACK WHICH IS THEN CONNECTED TO THEIR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANNING. A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMPONENT IN RUNNING TURNAROUND SCHOOLS IS ALSO PART OF THE OVERALL INITIATIVE
PROGRAM: ENHANCED SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICESIT SUPPORTS THE PROVISION OF ADEQUATE HEALTH CARE TO ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS' STUDENTS. THIS WAS THE LAST YEAR OF THE PROGRAM COMPRISED BY THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS: SUPPORT SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICE INFRASTRUCTURE, COLLABORATE WITH COORDINATED HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS, LINK STUDENTS TO COMMUNITY HEALTH RESOURCES AND SERVICES, DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS, IMPLEMENT CONTINUOUS CYCLES OF PROGRAM QUALITY, FOSTER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COLLABORATION AND NETWORKING AMONG SCHOOL NURSES, AND PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES TO FOUR PRIVATE PARTNER SCHOOLS.
