TO SAVE AND HEAL LIVES THROUGH ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION.

NEDS is the sole corporate member of NEOB and LCDS and, in addition to operating a tissue recovery agency, provides a range of administrative and clinical services exclusively to the two OPOs. Tissue Donation and Recovery Services NEDS operates an accredited and FDA-registered tissue bank providing services for the donation of tissues such as heart valves, corneas, skin and bone for transplant. The Tissue Services program provides 24 hours a day staffing through an operations center to respond via the phone to hospital referrals, identify potential tissue donors and conduct medical screening to assess donation suitability. The Tissue Services program also provides support and information about tissue donation to families in order to obtain authorization for donation or discuss carrying-out the patients authorization through a donor registry. The Tissue Services program coordinates the surgical recovery of donated tissues and the packaging and transportation of the tissue to affiliated tissue processing organizations that then prepare the tissue for future transplantation. The Tissue Services program seeks to maximize the donation of tissue for transplant by focusing on increasing the rate of conversion of potential tissue donors to actual donors. This has been accomplished by increasing the number of families approached about tissue donation and providing more in-depth information to families about tissue donation as part of the consent conversations. During 2019, 4,648 tissues were recovered from 2,080 donors.
