TO PROMOTE BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC ACTIVITY IN THE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT OF DOWNTOWN WESTFIELD, MA.
THE WESTFIELD BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, INC. HAS PROVEN TO BE AN EFFECTIVE VEHICLE IN WORKING TOWARDS THE REVITALIZATION OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA. THE MISSION OF THE WBID IS TO CREATE A DOWNTOWN THAT IS A VITAL PART OF OUR WESTFIELD COMMUNITY, WHERE PEOPLE COME TOGETHER TO LIVE, WORK, PLAY AND CONNECT. THIS MISSION IS CARRIED OUT BY FOCUSING OUR EFFORTS IN FIVE PROGRAM AREAS: MAINTENANCE & BEAUTIFICATION, MARKETING, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE AND PUBLIC SAFETY. WITH INPUT FROM OUR MEMBERS, COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND STAKEHOLDERS WE HAVE SET FORTH A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN OF ACTION.
THE WBID COLLABORATES WITH MANY LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES TO PROVIDE COLLECTIVE MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES TO SMALL BUSINESSES IN AN EFFORT TO PROMOTE THE AREA. WBID WORKS TO BRING EVENTS TO THE DOWNTOWN THAT INCREASE FOOT TRAFFIC AND ENHANCE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY ADDING TO THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THOSE WHO LIVE, WORK AND PLAY IN THE DOWNTOWN.
IN THE AREA OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT THE WBID CONTINUES TO SEEK OPPORTUNITIES AND FUNDING TO OFFER A VARIETY OF TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS THAT FOCUS ON ASSISTING SMALL AND MICRO BUSINESSES. THE BEST RETAIL PRACTICES PROGRAM HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN BOTH RETENTION AND RECRUITING OF NEW BUSINESS. THIS PAST YEAR WE ARE PROUD OF OUR WORK WITH THE BEST RETAIL PRACTICE GRANT PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM ENABLED US TO PROVIDE A TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WORKSHOP TO OVER 20 PARTICIPANTS ALONG WITH A ONE ON ONE IN-STORE CONSULTATION WITH A PROFESSIONAL RETAIL EXPERT TO 7 GRANT AWARD RECIPIENTS. THE EXPERT WORKED WITH THE CLIENTS TO IDENTIFY AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT IN THEIR INDIVIDUAL BUSINESS AND THEN PROVIDED UP TO $1,900 TO MAKE THE SUGGESTED ENHANCEMENTS.
THROUGH COLLECTIVE MAINTENANCE WE PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL SERVICES TO OUR DOWNTOWN WITH DAILY TRASH PICKUP, SWEEPING, GRAFFITI REMOVAL, AND SNOW REMOVAL. THE WBID ENHANCES THE LOOK OF OUR DOWNTOWN WITH HANGING BASKETS AND PLANTERS.
