LAND'S SAKE COMBINES ECOLOGICALLY-SOUND LAND MANAGEMENT PRACTICES WITH HANDS-ON ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION TO MODEL HOW PUBLIC OPEN SPACE CAN BE USED AND ENJOYED BY THE COMMUNITY. A 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT CORPORATION, LAND'S SAKE, INC. RUNS A PUBLIC FARM, HOSTS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FOR ALL AGES, MAINTAINS THE TOWN FOREST FOR RECREATIONAL AND PRODUCTION USES, AND CARES FOR BOTH PUBLIC CONSERVATION AND PRIVATE LAND. OUR EFFORTS ARE CENTERED ON THREE THEMES:ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, SUSTAINABLE LAND MANAGEMENT AND OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION AND COMMUNITY-BUILDING AND CARETAKING. BRINGING PEOPLE ONTO THE LAND AS VISITORS TO OUR FARM, AS VOLUNTEERS OR YOUTH WORKERS, AND THROUGH OUR ACTIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, LAND'S SAKE, INC. DIRECTLY CONNECTS PEOPLE TO THEIR LOCAL ECOLOGY. OUR WORK UNCOVERS THE INTRINSIC VALUE OF THE LAND AROUND US AND THE IMPORTANCE OF TREATING THE LAND WITH RESPECT.

FARMFARMSTAND: LAND'S SAKE SELLS ITS PRODUCE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC THROUGH A FARMSTAND LOCATED AT THE MAIN FARM IN THE CENTER OF WESTON. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING FRESH PRODUCE FROM MID-JUNE THROUGH THE END OF OCTOBER, THE FARMSTAND REPRESENTS AN IMPORTANT FOCAL POINT FOR ACTIVITIES AND VISITORS AT THE FARM. PICK YOUR OWN: LAND'S SAKE OFFERS A NUMBER OF CROPS FOR PICKING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE ("CSA") SHARES: LAND'S SAKE OFFERS THE CSA PROGRAM IN WHICH SHAREHOLDERS SHARE WITH THE FARMERS THE BOUNTY AND RISK INHERENT IN GROWING FOOD. SHAREHOLDERS PARTICIPATE BY PURCHASING A SEASON'S WORTH OF FARM-RAISED FOOD BEFORE THE GROWING SEASON BEGINS. CSA MEMBERS THEN PICK UP THEIR SHARE OF THE HARVEST ON A WEEKLY BASIS DURING THE GROWING SEASON. DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF SHARE PURCHASED, THESE WEEKLY PICKUPS BEGIN IN JUNE, SEPTEMBER OR NOVEMBER. SUPPER CLUB: LAND'S SAKE HOSTS GOURMET DINNERS FEATURING PRODUCE FROM LAND'S SAKE AND OTHER LOCAL FARMS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
EDUCATIONFARM-BASED EDUCATION PROGRAMS: LAND'S SAKE OFFERS VARIOUS IN-SCHOOL, AFTER SCHOOL, VACATION AND SUMMER PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO EXCITE STUDENTS OF ALL AGES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY, OUTDOOR WORK AND TO FEEL COMFORTABLE ON THE FARM.FOOD FOR HUNGER RELIEF: EACH YEAR LAND'S SAKE DONATES OVER $25,000 WORTH OF FRESH, LOCAL PRODUCE TOWARDS HUNGER RELIEF EFFORTS IN AND AROUND BOSTON ON BEHALF OF THE TOWN OF WESTON. IN 2019, LAND'S SAKE DONATED AN ADDITIONAL $57,352 WORTH OF PRODUCE TOWARDS HUNGER RELIEF FOR A TOTAL OF OVER $82,000 IN PRODUCE DONATIONS.
SUSTAINABLE LAND MANAGEMENTCONSERVATION LAND MANAGEMENT: LAND'S SAKE HAS PIONEERED A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TOWN OF WESTON TO MANAGE PUBLIC CONSERVATION LAND FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE COMMUNITY. FORESTRY: LAND'S SAKE MANAGES AN INNOVATIVE FORESTRY PROGRAM ON PUBLIC CONSERVATION LAND IN THE TOWN OF WESTON. LAND'S SAKE ALSO PROVIDES A MODEL FOR SMALL-SCALE SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY. AS PART OF OUR ONGOING FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN, LAND'S SAKE SUSTAINABLY HARVESTS HARDWOOD TREES FROM THE WESTON FORESTS TO PRODUCE FIREWOOD, WHICH IS DELIVERED EACH FALL.
