Organizations Filed Purposes: TO TRANSFORM THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS, SELF-CONFIDENCE, AND LIFE TRAJECTORIES OF CHILDREN LIVING IN UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES. BECAUSE BELL BELIEVES IN THE TREMENDOUS POTENTIAL OF ALL CHILDREN TO EXCEL, IT RECOGNIZES THEM AS SCHOLARS.

BELL EXISTS TO TRANSFORM THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS, SELF-CONFIDENCE, AND LIFE TRAJECTORIES OF CHILDREN LIVING IN UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES.

SUMMERBELLXCEL'S SUMMER PROGRAMS BOOST SCHOLAR ACHIEVEMENT, SUPPORT SUCCESSFUL TRANSITIONS THROUGH THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADES, AND ELIMINATE SUMMER LEARNING LOSS FOR AT-RISK STUDENTS. BELLXCEL'S SUMMER LEARNING APPROACH BLENDS RIGOROUS ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION WITH HANDS-ON ENRICHMENT COURSES, PROJECT-BASED LEARNING, FIELD TRIPS, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2020, 18,652 SCHOLARS PARTICIPATED IN 163 SCHOOL- AND COMMUNITY-BASED SUMMER PROGRAMS. SUMMER PROGRAMS GENERALLY OPERATE UP TO FIVE DAYS PER WEEK, EIGHT HOURS PER DAY, FOR EIGHT WEEKS. BELLXCEL DELIVERS SUMMER PROGRAMS DIRECTLY AND TRAINS AND SUPPORTS SCHOOLS AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO OPERATE EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAMS FOR THEIR STUDENTS. FOR EXAMPLE, BELLXCEL TRAINED 56 LOCAL YMCA ASSOCIATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO DELIVER THE POWER SCHOLARS ACADEMY, A PROGRAM BASED ON BELLXCEL'S EVIDENCE-BASED MODEL.ASSESSMENT DATA SHOW THAT SCHOLARS WHO ATTENDED BELLXCEL'S SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS GAINED NEW READING AND MATH SKILLS. THEY AVOIDED SUMMER LEARNING LOSS AND RETURNED TO SCHOOL IN THE FALL HAVING GAINED READING AND MATH SKILLS. IN ADDITION, NINE OUT OF TEN TEACHERS REPORTED THAT SUMMER PROGRAMS INCREASED SCHOLARS' SELF-CONFIDENCE, AND MORE THAN EIGHT OUT OF TEN PARENTS REPORTED THEY BECAME MORE ENGAGED IN THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION.

AFTER-SCHOOLBELLXCEL'S AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS EQUIP STUDENTS WITH THE ACADEMIC SKILLS, SELF-CONFIDENCE, AND SOCIAL SKILLS THEY NEED TO SUCCEED DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. PROGRAMS BLEND SMALL-GROUP INSTRUCTION IN LITERACY AND MATH; MENTORSHIP FROM TEACHERS AND COLLEGE STUDENTS; EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING THROUGH ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT; PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT; AND ONGOING TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR STAFF. DURING THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR, BELLXCEL SERVED OVER 3,282 SCHOLARS IN ITS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS AT 58 SCHOOLS IN BALTIMORE, HOUSTON, HUMBLE, LEAGUE CITY, LEXINGTON, MADISON HEIGHTS, MISSOURI CITY, PROVIDENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, SOMERVILLE, WEBSTER AND NEW YORK CITY. PROGRAMS OPERATED FOR UP TO THREE HOURS PER DAY AND FIVE DAYS PER WEEK.DUE TO COVID-19 RELATED DISRUPTIONS AND CLOSURES OF SCHOOL SYSTEMS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, MOST PROGRAMS WERE UNABLE TO COMPLETE POST-TESTING AT THE END OF THE PROGRAM. THIS PREVENTED BELLXCEL FROM CALCULATING ASSESSMENT GAINS DURING THE PROGRAM. IN PRIOR YEARS (2018-2019), ASSESSMENT DATA SHOW THAT SIX OUT OF TEN SCHOLARS WHO ATTENDED THE PROGRAM INCREASED THEIR SCALED SCORES IN READING AND MATH. EIGHT OUT OF TEN TEACHERS REPORTED THAT THE PROGRAM INCREASED SCHOLARS' SELF-CONFIDENCE, AND NINE OUT OF TEN PARENTS REPORTED THEY BECAME MORE ENGAGED IN THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION.
