THE MAINE CHILDREN'S ALLIANCE ADVOCATES FOR SOUND PUBLIC POLICIES TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF ALL MAINE'S CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES.

POLICY PRIORITIES ARE: ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY PROGRAMMING FOR LOW-INCOME CHILDREN, INCLUDING HEAD START; INCREASING AND DIVERSIFYING EARLY CHILDHOOD FINANCE; EXPANSION OF MAINE'S PUBLIC PRESCHOOL PROGRAM; INCREASING ACCESS TO HOME VISITING SERVICES. ACHIEVEMENTS DURING CALENDAR YEAR 2019 INCLUDED: 1) IMPROVING THE ELIGIBILITY PROCESS FOR PARENTS APPLYING FOR MAINE'S CHILD CARE SUBSIDY SYSTEM. 2) ENSURE THAT YOUNG CHILDREN ARE NOT REMOVED OR SUSPENDED FROM EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS BY ADVOCATING FOR ACCESS TO EARLY CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH CONSULTATION PROGRAMS 3) ADVOCATE FOR A TWO-GENERATION PROGRAM TO PROVIDE SUPPORTS FOR LOW-INCOME CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS WHILE SUPPORTING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS.
MAINE KIDS COUNT- MAINE KIDS COUNT IS PART OF THE NATIONAL KIDS COUNT NETWORK, FUNDED BY THE ANNIE E. CASEY FOUNDATION TO TRACK THE STATUS OF CHILDREN ACCROSS THE UNITED STATES. SINCE 1994, MCA HAS PUBLISHED THE ANNUAL MAINE KIDS COUNT DATA BOOK, AND RELATED PRODUCTS, WHICH PROVIDE CURRENT FACTS ON THE PHYSICAL, SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL WELL-BEING OF MAINE'S CHILDREN. ACHIEVEMENTS DURING CALENDAR YEAR 2019 INCLUDED: 1) MAINE 2019 KIDS COUNT DATA BOOK 2) PROMOTION OF THE 2020 CENSUS 3) BUILT PUBLIC WILL AROUND POLICY PRIORITIES BY ATTENDING 26 CONFERENCES, HOLDING 16 EDUCATION SESSIONS AND NEARLY 100 MEETINGS WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS.
FEDERAL/STATE POLICY PROJECTS HEALTH ADVOCACY: MCA ADVANCED EFFECTIVE HEALTH POLICY SOLUTIONS FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, INCLUDING CHILDREN'S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM, CHILD WELFARE REFORMS, AND EARLY INTERVENTION. MCA PROVIDED KEY DATA AND ANALYSIS FOR A STATEWIDE RESEARCH INITIATIVE TO EXPLORE INCREASING INFANT MORTALITY RATES IN MAINE. MCA IS ACTIVE IN COALITIONS, INCLUDING HEALTHCARE4ME AND CHILD WELFARE ADVISORY NETWORK.
