Midcoast Maine Community Action is a community action organization advocating on behalf of low-income and other at-risk individuals, assisting them to identify and address their needs, enabling them to achieve self sufficiency and independence. MMCA actively promotes economic and community development of the business and communities in the mid-coast area where individuals and families reside. During the fiscal year ended September 30, 2019, MMCA served 4,001 individuals and 388 families.

Child and Family Services - Made up of Head Start, Early Head Start, and CACFP. Head Start is a federally funded program for income-eligible 3 to 5 year-olds that provides preschool activities and provides health, dental, nutrition, and other services.Child and Adult Care Food Program provides reimbursement to registered or licensed home childcare providers and Head Start Centers who serve USDA guideline nutritious meals to children in their care.Head Start provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to income-eligible children and their families. The focus of this program is to ensure that children are ready to start school while addressing all aspects of a child's development and learning. Services are available to residents of Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Northeastern Cumberland counties. Classrooms are located in Brunswick, Pejepscot (Topsham), Bath, Newcastle, Somerville, Waldoboro and Whitefield.The Early Head Start program provides center and home-based services to expectant mothers and children ages 0-3. The program is designed to guide healthy nutritional, social, and physical development for the child and family. Centers are located in Bath, Newcastle and Pejepscot (Topsham). Home based services are available to residents of Sagadahoc County: Topsham, Bath, West Bath, Phippsburg, Georgetown, Arrowsic, Woolwich. Lincoln County: Wiscasset, Dresden, Westport, Edgecomb, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport, Newcastle, Damariscotta, Nobleboro, Bremen, Bristol, South Bristol, Waldoboro. Head Start encourages applications from children with special needs.During the fiscal year ended September 30, 2019, this program area served 316 individuals.
Community Services - Offers Family Development Case Management, a comprehensive case management program for families in mid-coast Maine that provides subsidized housing and case management services to residents; Housing Counseling program that provides emergency funding, counseling, advocacy, and referrals to a wide range of community resources; Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program that provides food vouchers, nutrition education, and breastfeeding support to pregnant and post-partum women, infants, and children up to the age of 5; and the Keeping Seniors Home program that provides weatherization and other services that enable seniors to remain in their homes. Families CAN! is the State of Maine designated Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Council program for the greater Brunswick area and Sagadahoc County. Families CAN! provides mandated reporter training to the staff of local social service organizations, school districts, and other programs that serve children. Additionally, the program offers a variety of parenting classes and workshops for the general public and for those individuals referred to the program by other agencies. MMCA also is a partner in the statewide network of certified Health Insurance Marketplace Navigators who are able to help individuals and families explore their health coverage options and provide assistance with enrollment. Through the Marketplace, they can access quality health plans, make comparisons between different options, and access new tax credits that could lower their monthly premiums. This service is free of charge. During the fiscal year ended September 30, 2019, this program area served 3,685 individuals.
