Organizations Filed Purposes:
To preserve, support, and enhance the wilderness character of Baxter State Park in the spirit of its founder, Governor Percival Baxter.
Support for Park Activities: We offered our Baxter Youth Conservation Corps (BYCC) in modified form in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We hired 8 full-time BYCC Conservation Fellows who worked full time for six weeks and completed 1,920 hours of service learning focused on Baxter State Park. We supported Baxter State Park on communications and signage related to COVID-19 for the summer season. We offered our fourth annual sign auction in partnership with Baxter State Park in November, raising $14,550 from the sale of 20 retired trail signs.
Education and Outreach: We published three issues of our Forever Wild newsletter with a circulation of 2,000 (1,400 print, 600 digital) per issue. We produced the 2021 Baxter State Park calendar in partnership with Baxter State Park and a local publishing company. We distributed brochures and outreach materials through the Maine Tourism Association between January and June. We hosted a Zoom Q&A session with the Baxter State Park Director on June 26 that was attended by 45 people. We offered public Zoom presentations by our BYCC Conservation Fellows on August 12 and 13 that were attended by approximately 60 people.
Advocacy for the Park: We attended five meetings of the Baxter State Park Authority, four meetings of the Katahdin Collaborative, one management planning meeting for Katahdin Woods & Waters National Monument, and four meetings of the Appalachian Trail Task Force.
