Organizations Filed Purposes:
The LifeFlight Foundation (LFF) is an independent charity overseen by a Board comprised of business, medical, community, and education leaders from across Maine. The Foundation aids in the development of Maine's major air medical and critical care transport needs including: infrastructure such as hospital helipads, aviation weather systems, instrument flight systems, communication systems; the capital acquisition of specialized medical equipment and technology; the capital acquisition of medical aircraft; and the provision of continuing medical education for hospital and EMS personnel throughout Maine.
The LifeFlight Foundation (LFF) supports LifeFlight of Maine (LOM) in the provision of emergent critical care medical services to patients needing specialized care throughout Maine and under mutual aid the onterh states of Northern New England. LOM provides services to critically ill and injured patients regardless of insurance coverage and ability to pay for the cost of medical care. LLF provides capital support for aircraft acquisition; specialized medical equipment used on LOM helicopters and ground ambulances; emergency aviation infrastructure improvements such as hospital helipads, automated weather systems, and low level instrument flight infrastructure; and, support for LifeFlight's Critical Care Academy and high fidelity medical simulation provided by LOM to physicians, physician extenders, nurses, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians.
The LFF supports a wide range of continuing medical and safety education provided by LifeFlight of Maine. The continuing medical education and simulation program is used by hospitals and EMS agencies throughout Maine to improve the care of critically ill and injured patients with a special focus on children. In FY2020 LifeFlight's clinical education program was disrupted by the SARS Co-V-2 pandemic. In total LifeFlight provided 9 continuing clinical education and high fidelity simulation programs for 176 physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and paramedics. Included in the education program was a partnership with Northern Maine Community College and the Community College Quality Council on Workforce Development to produce a Critical Care Academy Program at NMCC in Presque Isle, Maine incorporating clinical staff from hospitals and EMS services in Aroostook County. Other hospital continuing medical education programs included pediatric training and nurse led resuscitation training at Eastern Maine Medical Center, MidCoast Hospital, and Central Maine Medical Center.
The LFF supports the safety and availability of LOM services through a private-public partnership with the State of Maine and the Federal Aviation Administration to improve airports, hospital helipads, automated weather observation systems, weather cameras, and instrument flight procedures and routes.
In, FY2020 the LFF supported patient care services provided by LifeFlight of Maine with funding support for:* Facility completion of the new operations base for LifeFlight 4 at the Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport of a new base in Sanford, ME. * Acquisition of Biocontainment transport systems for highly infectious disease patients.* The purchase of Provider Protective Equipment (PPE) required to manage highly infectious respiratory disease patients. * The acquisition of a new Leonardo A109SP Twin Engine IFR configured medical aircraft
