Organizations Filed Purposes:
To promote, create and inspire artistic excellence through the presentation of world-class entertainment and professional performing arts education and to drive cultural and economic growth for our community.
During the year, Johnson Hall presented artist performances - theater, dance, music, etc. and provided the venue for same. We held over 50 shows in the theater and at Gardiner Waterfront Park through the free summer Waterfront Concert Series. In addition, we provide performing arts education over five weeks via summer performing art and dance classes (SPARK) for school aged children. Our Artists in the Schools program brings performing artists into area schools at no cost to the school. Children are exposed to a wide range of artists including magicians, jugglers, comedians and more. For some children in our area, this is their only exposure to live performing arts. The free Summer Waterfront Concert Series provides an opportunity for people from all over the area to enjoy live music at no cost in Gardiner's Waterfront Park. Johnson Hall pays for musicians from a wide range of musical genres to perform. Like Artists in the Schools, this is often the only exposure that attendees have to live musical performances. For the year ended June 30, 2019, we have provided an opportunity for over 4,000 people to experience performing arts in our 117 seat theater, in their classroom or at the Gardiner Waterfront. By presenting world class entertainment, we also drive economic and cultural growth in Central Maine. The next phase in the development of Johnson Hall will be the renovation of the second and third floors that will include a 400 seat theater on the third floor, a second floor lobby and concession area, restrooms and a green room for performers, as well as an ADA compliant elevator for access to the upper floors.
