UNITED SOMALI WOMEN OF MAINE STRIVES TO ASSIST REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT WOMEN LIVING IN MAINE IN A MANNER WHICH REFLECTS THEIR GENDER AND CULTURAL PRACTICES.
To Provide culturally and linguistically direct domestic violence and sexual assault services to immigrant/refugee victims and survivors.
To engage refugee/immigrant men through prevention, education and leadership development, to develop comprehensive gender based violence prevention and educational programming for the new Mainer communities.
Continue to enhance current services to victims of the New Mainers Communities by addressing culturally and linguistically specific resources and services that address the safety, economic, housing, and workplace needs of victims of domestic violence, dating violence, or sexual assault, including emergency assistance.Provide cross-training for Maine professionals on the specific issues and needs of domestic violence, sexual assault, and dating violence victims in the New Mainers communities.Continue to assist institutions, specifically: Family Crisis; Safe Voices; Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence; SAPARS; MECASA; and SARSSM, in examining current agency policies and procedures that inhibit services and trust within New Maine Communities.
