Incredible Edible MilbridgeThe produce at the pick-your-own vegetable gardens around town are free for everyone. You can find the vegetables in raised bed vegetable gardens throughout town, the 14,000 square-foot garden next to the Red Barn Motel, and the 18,000 square-foot garden at the Milbridge Commons Wellness Park. Combined, we grow approximately 8,000 pounds of vegetables each year. Collaborated with the Community Caring Collaborative to bring the Downeast Family Gardening project to lifeproviding seeds, pots, soil and instructions to families who might otherwise not have the funds needed to start a home garden.Offered free Harvest Table cooking classes.Secured a greenhouse to be installed in 2021.
Milbridge Commons Wellness ParkMilbridge Commons Wellness Park enjoyed a successful planting season with 18,000 square feet of vegetable gardens including a children's garden. Installed the Ed Flanagan Pollinator garden along with educational signage. Installed a butterfly wall for children near the future home of the Milbridge Commons playground. Finished raising $60,000 for the Milbridge Commons Wellness Park playground to be installed in 2021.
Other Programs:A new program OWL: Outdoor Women Lead was started with virtual programming in light of COVID-19. We celebrated our fourth year of hosting Weight Watchers, and our second year of offer Tai Chi at WHRL. Held a fly-tying workshop in partnership with the Maine Outdoor School.Conducted a virtual diaper driveProvided gift bags with COVID-appropriate supplies to Milbridge Elementary School faculty and staffOffered free Harvest Table cooking classes Held the Downeast Roots Festival- a celebration of Maine handcrafts (pivoted to virtual format d/t COVID), a collaborative effort with other local non-profitsFormed a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. Held a scarecrow competition at Milbridge Commons Wellness Park.Installed the granite sculpture Transitory at Milbridge Commons, part of the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium.
