BUILDING UPON A LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP IN AMERICAN THEATRE, THE OGUNQUIT PLAYHOUSE PRODUCES WORLD-CLASS PERFORMANCES, CULTIVATES NEW WORKS FOR THE STAGE, AND PRESERVES AN ICONIC AND HISTORIC PLAYHOUSE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. THE OGUNQUIT PLAYHOUSE SERVES SIMULTANEOUSLY AND SYNERGISTICALLY AS A REGIONAL THEATER, A PRODUCTION COMPANY, AND AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION.
IN 2019, THE OGUNQUIT PLAYHOUSE CELEBRATED ITS 87TH SEASON, CONTINUING A LEGACY AS ONE OF THE GREAT THEATRES STILL SURVIVING FROM THE ERA WHEN SUMMER THEATRE WAS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR FORMS OF ENTERTAINMENT IN THE COUNTRY. TODAY, WORLD-CLASS THEATRE REMAINS STRONG AT THE OGUNQUIT PLAYHOUSE. THE 2019 SEASON INCLUDED FIVE PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTIONS OF BROADWAY MUSICALS, PLAYS AND NEW WORKS AND A 4-WEEK HOLIDAY PRODUCTION PRESENTED OFFSITE AT THE MUSIC HALL IN PORTSMOUTH, NH. OVER 103,000 PATRONS EXPERIENCED OUR MAIN STAGE SHOWS DURING A 2019 SEASON THAT SPANNED 24 WEEKS FROM MAY 15-OCTOBER 27. THOUSANDS MORE EXPERIENCED OUR OFFSITE HOLIDAY PRODUCTION, EXTENDING OUR SEASON INTO DECEMBER.
THE CHILDREN'S THEATRE SERIES, THE CORNERSTONE OF OUR YOUTH EDUCATIONS PROGRAM, INCLUDED FOUR PRODUCTIONS ON THE MAIN STAGE. CHILDREN'S THEATRE IS A TUITION-BASED LEARNING CAMP FOR AGES 9-18 THAT CULMINATES IN FULLY STAGED MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS OFTEN TO SOLD-OUT AUDIENCES. THE 1- AND 2-WEEK CAMPS IDENTIFY, STRENGTHEN AND ENHANCE EACH STUDENT'S PERFORMANCE SKILLS, SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-EXPRESSION. STUDENTS RECEIVE VOCAL, MOVEMENT AND ACTING TRAINING WHILE PREPARING TO PERFORM BEFORE A LIVE AUDIENCE. THE CAMPS ALSO INCLUDE A RISING STARS PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES 5-8. THE RISING STARS CAMPS ARE WEEKLONG SESSIONS THAT INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE THEATRE.
