Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM & THEATRE OF MAINE EXISTS TO INSPIRE DISCOVERY AND IMAGINATION THROUGH EXPLORATION AND PLAY. THE MUSEUM SERVES AS AN INDEPENDENT RESOURCE FOR FAMILIES AND EDUCATORS, HELPING TO CREATE A BROAD COMMUNITY DEVOTED TO OUR CHILDREN'S DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING.
MUSEUM OPERATIONS- THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM & THEATRE OF MAINE EXISTS TO INSPIRE DISCOVERY AND IMAGINATION THROUGH EXPLORATION AND PLAY. THE MUSEUM SERVES AS AN INDEPENDENT RESOURCE FOR FAMILIES AND EDUCATORS, HELPING TO CREATE A BROAD COMMUNITY DEVOTED TO OUR CHILDREN'S DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING. OVER 100,000 VISITORS COME TO THE MUSEUM ON AN ANNUAL BASIS. THE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT PROVIDES FOR A SAFE AND CLEAN BUILDING IN WHICH TO PRESENT EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS AND PROGRAMS.
THEATRE- THEATRE PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES TO SEE A SHOW AND YOUNG ACTORS TO PARTICIPATE IN A PRODUCTION AND DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS. DURING THE PAST YEAR, WE CREATED A NEW MAKER SPACE EXHIBIT DESIGNED TO FOSTER OPEN-ENDED STEAM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART, AND MATH) EXPERIENCES FOR CHILDREN AGES 3 AND UP. IN ADDITION TO OUR ONGOING PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN AGED 1-10, WE OFFERED A NEW, UNIQUE PROGRAM TO MIDDLE-SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH WITH AN INTERACTIVE DESIGN-YOUR-OWN-EXHIBIT COMPONENT. WE ALSO OFFERED SEVERAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDING WABANAKI REACH TO THE PUBLIC AND USING THEATRE AS A LITERACY TEACHING TOOL FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD PROFESSIONALS.
EDUCATIONAL- THE MUSEUM PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES THROUGH ON SITE PROGRAMS AND OUTREACH TO SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. THE PROGRAMS ARE DIRECTLY TIED TO THE EXHIBITS. NEW PROGRAMS INCLUDED CULTURAL EDUCATION ON MAINE'S INDIGENOUS PEOPLE, AND SOME NEW EDUCATIONAL AND THEATRE WORKSHOPS.
