Organizations Filed Purposes: The Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center serves as a hub of collaboration that strengthens the immigrant community through language acquisition, economic integration and civic engagement.

Provide a collaborative framework and support to mission aligned organizations and individuals by providing them with a professional working space, technology support and Networking opportunities. Among the organizations using the space are: Women United Around the World, Ladder to the Moon with its monthly newspaper Amjambo Africa, the Immigrant Music Connection, Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition and the Immigrant Resource Center of Maine. We also provide space for immigrant entrepreneurs as an incubator for our Business Hub Program. Currently we have the Maine Intercultural Communications and MANIR Print operating in the Co-Working space.

Expanded Digital Language Literacy program, an innovative model that integrates English language learning with technology that supports a tailored curriculum and a self-paced learning platform. A digital platform that provides the flexibility needed for adult learners who must work, raise children and learn new skills. Coupling language acquisition and immigrant workforce integration and training through contextualized English resulted in a strong partnership with Maine Health, the largest employer in Maine. The partnership was to make accessible this program to its non-English speaker workforce. We expanded the program through partnerships with the Hope Acts in Portland, Capital Area New Mainers Project in Augusta and supported 30 newly arrived asylum seekers in the summer of 2019. The program currently has 145 students enrolled in career based English courses.

Developed Civic Engagement & Citizenship Initiative that focuses on two areas. To Ensure eligible immigrants are registered to vote and turnout to vote and assist immigrants in the process of becoming citizens through education, assistance with the application and financing. In 2019 we were able to canvass and engage with 1,800 individuals and registered 257 new voters. We assisted 11 individuals in securing their citizenship status.
