Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition (MIRC) is a unique collaboration of leaders, a majority of whom are people of color, representing 69-member organizations that include immigrant constituency groups, advocacy groups, direct service and grassroots community organizations.MIRC values the diversity and mutual support of the membership as its greatest strength. MIRC is successful when it advocates for member organizations and immigrant leaders to strengthen and expand work in their individual communities. MIRC is advancing systemic change and equity in Maine through collaborative advocacy for policy development at state and city levels to ensure that immigrants' voices are heard when issues impacting their daily lives and economic integration come before the legislature. We are ensuring that people of color specifically immigrants and refugees are taking leadership roles within our own coalition and externally in coalitions that address issues of economic opportunity, education and justice. MIRC remains accountable to our members and constituents through regular monthly meetings that are open to all immigrants and refugees across Maine. All members have equal voice and input into the agenda and vote at meetings. MIRC facilitates listening sessions within various members of the immigrant communities across the state in order to learn about their needs
