Organizations Filed Purposes: To support survivors of sexual violence, their families and friends, and to help eradicate sexual violence in York and Cumberland Counties. The services offered include crisis and support lines, support groups, school and community-based prevention education, child advocacy and sexual assault response services.

Provide support services to survivors of sexual assault in Cumberland and York Counties in Maine

Helpline and Accompaniment Services provide accompaniment for victims to local hospitals and police departments for medical care, forensic evidence collection, and police reporting as well as provision of a 24 hour crisis and support line.24-Hour Helpline: provides emotional support, answers the caller's questions and offers appropriate resources. Makes accompaniment available to victims for medical care and/or forensic evidence collection at the hospital. In current year provided 130 hours of helpline support and 69 hours of one-on-one support.Sexual Assault Response Team (SART): SART Advocates help survivors navigate through complex systems following an assault or incident, such as medical, legal, workplace or school systems. In current year provided 1,800 hours of client support in person and by telephone, 231 accompaniments, and averaged 113 on-going monthly clients.Support Groups: provide information, guidance and peer support for people who have experienced sexual violence. Support groups are facilitated by licensed therapists, SARSSM staff, or specialized practitioners in trauma. We offer traditional groups, yoga groups, groups for at-risk teens, jail groups and drop-in services at homeless shelters.

Education and prevention services include school-based programs for K-12, post-secondary schools, professional training, outreach, and awareness programs for civic groups and local businesses. The total number of participants in our education and awareness program was 9,124 students and 716 community members.

The Children's Advocacy Center of York County provides a safe, neutral, and child-centered place for coordinated forensic interviews of children following an allegation of sexual abuse. Services include non-leading, child-friendly, legally sound forensic interviews; advocacy and support for the child and their families; a neutral space to freely communicate and collaborate on investigations before, during, and after interviews; and seamless referrals to various health and medical organizations. In the current year our interviewers completed 273 interviews and provided 310 hours of family advocacy.
