To promote the protection and restoration of wetlands and related aquatic resources, to apply sound science to wetland management, and to provide training, education, and capacity building for our members and the public.
Research - 40%ASWM conducted research into many areas of environmental policy through six primary projects: 1) Enhancing State and Tribal Roles in Wetland Protection through Regulatory Program Capacity Building, 2) Strengthening Opportunities for State Assumption of the Section 404 Dredge and Fill Program, 3) Urban Wetlands: Supporting and Sustaining a Healthy and Safe Urban Environment, 4) Wetland Training for State and Tribal Wetland Program Professionals, 5) Beaver and Wetland Restoration, and 6) Raising the Bar on Wetland Mapping Through Educational Webinars, Outreach and Advancement of Functional Assessment Methodologies.
Webinars Publication - 40%ASWM planned, coordinated, hosted, recorded, edited, and posted 36 national webinars with a total of 9,517 participants (average of 264 participants per webinar). ASWM also published its monthly Wetland News Digest, weekly Insider's Edition, and quarterly newsletter, Wetland News.
Workshops and Conferences - 15%Due to COVID-19, all ASWM's workshops, meetings, and conferences in 2020 were held virtually. ASWM held its annual State/Tribal/Federal Coordination Meeting April 7-9, 2020. On Aug. 12-Aug.14, 2020, ASWM facilitated and hosted a workshop for Utah State University on "Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration for Riverscapes. And on November 17-19, 2020 ASWM planned, facilitated, and hosted a virtual conference for EPA Region 9.
