THE MISSION OF THE MISSISSIPPI CONSTRUCTION EDUCATION FOUNDATION IS TO PROMOTE CAREERS, RECRUIT CAPABLE INDIVIDUALS AND TRAIN A QUALITY WORKFORCE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.
PROMOTE CAREERS, RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING OF A QUALITY WORKFORCE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY.
CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS: THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE MS DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND MCEF REMAINED STRONG IN 2019. QUARTERLY MEETINGS WERE HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO ENSURE THIS RELATIONSHIP. MCEF'S STAFF MEMBERS ARE CONSIDERED SUPPORT PERSONNEL FOR MDE'S CAREER AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMS AND REMAIN INCLUDED IN THE DECISIONS RELATED TO STATE OPERATIONS OF CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.IN 2019, MCEF, ALONG WITH THE PARTNERSHIP OF MDE, CREDENTIALED 5,026 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN 186-CONSTRUCTION TRADE PROGRAMS IN THE 112 CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTERS IN MISSISSIPPI. ALL 186 CONSTRUCTION RELATED PROGRAMS IN MISSISSIPPI ARE NOW CONSIDERED TO BE NCCER, ACCREDITED TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES, WHICH TENDS TO IMPROVE AND SERVE AS A MODEL FOR OTHER PROGRAMS IN MISSISSIPPI. BECAUSE MDE'S DEPARTMENT OF CTE ADMINISTERS EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR ADULT AND YOUTH OFFENDERS, MCEF NOW HAS OVERSIGNT FOR NCCER CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FOR 15 PROGRAMS AND 246 STUDENTS IN MS CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES.DURING 2019, MCEF PROVIDED OVER 1,900 COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS WITH NCCER CREDENTIALS. IN ADDITION, THERE ARE NOW 5 COLLEGES THAT POST-TEST STUDENTS TO DEMOSTRATE EDUCATIONAL GAIN USING THE NCCER ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT TESTING. MCEG CERTIFIED THESE 5 COMMUNITY COLLEGES AS ACCREDITED ASSESSMENT SITES WITH OPERATE UNDER MCEF'S NCCER BANNER.
NCCER SECONDARY PRE-TESTING AND POST-TESTINGIN THE FALL OF 2019, MCEF AND MDE CONDUCTED A PRE-TEST FOR ALL SECONDARY STUDENTS ENROLLED IN CONSTRUCTION TRADE PROGRAMS IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI. THESE SAME STUDENTS WERE POST-TESTED AT THE COMPLETION OF THEIR TRADE PROGRAM. BASED ON THE OUTCOME OF THE TESTS GIVEN, THIS ASSESSMENT PROVED TO BE APPROPRIATE FOR ALL 5,026 STUDENTS AND HAD TREMENDOUS IMPACT ON THE INSTRUCTION EFFECTIVENESS DURING THE ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR. WITH THESE TESTS, MCEF AND MDE ARE ALSO ABLE TO REMAIN AWARE OF ANY PROBLEM AREAS IN ANY OF THESE PROGRAMS AND STAY UP TO DATE ON ANY AREAS THAT REQUIRE MORE INSTRUCTIONAL AID.
SKILLSUSA/MCEF STATE COMPETITION:IN 2019, MCEF OVERSAW 112 HIGH SCHOOLS THAT COMPRISE 186 CONSTRUCTION AND MANUFACTURING TRADE PROGRAMS INCLUDING 5,026 STUDENTS, ALL OF WHOM ARE INVOLVED IN CAREER AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT MISSISSIPPI. IN ADDITION, MCEF PROVIDES CREDENTIALS FOR CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS IN 15 COMMUNITY COLLEGES AND OFFERS CLASSES FOR OVER 500 STUDENTS WHOM ARE EMPLOYED AT 67 PARTICIPATING MISSISSIPPI CONTRACTORS. EACH YEAR MCEF HOSTS A SKILLS COMPETITION THAT INVOLVES OVER 300 STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE STATE TO COMPETE IN ADVANCED CONTINUING EDUCATION IN 12 DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTION AND MANUFACTURING TRADES. THE COMPETITION HAS SUCCESSFULLY/CONTINUALLY DEMONSTRATED THE CONSTRUCTION CAREER PATH, FROM HIGH SCHOOL CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION TO COMMUNITY COLLEGES CLASSES AND THEN EMPLOYMENT WITH A CONTRACTOR AND ENROLLMENT IN AN APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM. THIS COMPETITION OFFERS OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL STUDENTS TO SHOWCASE THEIR ADVANCED SKILLS AND BRING AWARENESS OF THESE SKILLS TO SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS AND COUNSELORS THUS SIMULTANEOUSLY PROVIDES CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE STUDENTS INVOLVED. ALONG WITH THE 2019 SKILLSUSA STATE COMPETITION, MCEF ALSO HOSTED A CAREER EXPO THAT COMPRISED APPROXIMATELY 1,500 8TH GRADE STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, WLTH A HANDS ON EXPERIENCE OFTHE JOBS AVAILABLE IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY. ALSO DURING THIS COMPETITION, A COUNSELORS WORKSHOP TOOK PLACE FOR 26 HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS FROM AREAS AROUND MISSISSIPPI, WHERE EACH COUNSELOR PARTICIPATED IN A HANDS-ON DEMONSTRATION OF WHAT EACH OF THEIR CAREER AND TECHNICAL TRADE STUDENTS EMBRACE DURING THEIR ENROLLMENT IN THESE CONSTRUCTION AND MANUFACTURING TRADE PROGRAMS. THE FIRST HAND VIEW ALLOWED THESE COUNSELORS TO GAIN BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT IT TAKES TO ENSURE EACH OF THEIR STUDENTS ARE SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR CONSTRUCTION AND MANUFACTURING TRADE PROGRAMS THUS IN THEIR FUTURE CAREERS.
