THE ORGANIZATION IS ESTABLISHED TO ADVOCATE FOR MISSISSIPPI'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
IN 2019, BSBJ HAD FOUR INTER-RELATED STRATEGIES, WHICH WERE AIMED TO ADVANCE NONPARTISAN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT IN MISSISSIPPI AND BUILD THE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR IMPORTANT, CONTINUED OUTCOMES.1. DEVELOPING AN ACTIVE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS HUB WILL ALLOW BSBJ TO PROVIDE THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY LEADERS WITH RELIABLE INFORMATION AND ANALYSIS ON EDUCATION ISSUES THAT CAN HELP ACTIVATE AND SUSTAIN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. BSBJ'S COMMUNICATIONS WORK BEGAN WITH COMMISSIONING FOCUS GROUP RESEARCH AND POLLING OF BSBJ'S THREE CONSTITUENCY GROUPS TO HELP FIND THE MOST EFFECTIVE STYLE AND CONTENT OF PUBLIC NARRATIVES TO ENGAGE EACH GROUP. THIS RESEARCH WAS CARRIED OUT BY TWO EXPERIENCED RESEARCH FIRMS AND WILL HAVE CONTINUING VALUE BEYOND 2019.2. UNDERTAKING NON-PARTISAN RESEARCH AND FIELD WORK TO MORE FULLY ADVANCE AFRICAN AMERICAN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND VOTER PARTICIPATION IS COMPARATIVELY LOW IN THE STATE'S MAJORITY-WHITE JURISDICTIONS. BSBJ ENGAGED A PROFESSIONAL FIRM WITH A TRACK RECORD IN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT OF AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE DEEP SOUTH TO CARRY OUT NON-PARTISAN FIELD WORK, RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTAL EFFORTS TO INCREASE AFRICAN AMERICAN VOTER PARTICIPATION IN PREDOMINATELY WHITE JURISDICTIONS IN DIFFERENT SECTIONS OF THE STATE.3. MOBILIZE PUBLIC SCHOOL PARENTS WHO CAN BE THE BEST, MOST EFFECTIVE ADVOCATES FOR IMPROVING PUBLIC SCHOOLS. BSBJ CONTINUED TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY FACILITATORS TO BETTER INFORM MISSISSIPPI PARENTS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS IN TARGETED AREAS ABOUT HOW THE PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM IS FUNDED AND ITS IMPACT ON JOBS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.4. UNDERTAKING A RANGE OF NON-PARTISAN EFFORTS TO FIND THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO ENGAGE THE STATE'S MILLENNIALS. BSBJ SPEND CONSIDERABLE TIME AND RESOURCES ATTEMPTING TO FIND NON-PARTISAN WAYS IN 2019 TO ENGAGE MILLENNIALS (THE LARGEST SEGMENT OF THE STATE'S ADULT POPULATION) IN CIVIC PARTICIPATION DURING THE STATE ELECTION YEAR.
