Organizations Filed Purposes: SR1 (SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH) IS A NON-PROFIT 501(C)(3) THAT STRIVES TO ELIMINATE DISPARITIES IN EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND TECHNOLOGY THROUGH SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND PARTNERSHIPS. SR1 IS COMMITTED TO EDUCATING AND IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL PEOPLE.

STRIVING TO ELIMINATE DISPARITIES IN EDUCATION, HEALTH & TECHNOLOGY.

AMERICORPSSR1 PROVIDED FREE HIGH-QUALITY EVIDENCE-BASED EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES TO OVER 300 UNDERSERVED K-12TH GRADE STUDENTS IN CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI IN ORDER IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES AND COLLEGE READINESS. SERVICES WERE PROVIDED FOUR DAYS A WEEK DURING NON-SCHOOL HOURS INCLUDING SATURDAYS FOR 12 HOURS A WEEK. ADDITIONALLY, A 5-WEEK INNOVATIVE HANDS-ON SUMMER CAMP TO COMBAT SUMMER LOST IN CORE ACADEMIC AREAS ESPECIALLY LITERACY AND MATH WAS HELD AS WELL. OVER 95 PERCENT OF STUDENTS SHOWED GROWTH IN MATH AND LITERACY AND ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF STUDENTS WERE PROMOTED TO THE NEXT GRADE. THE GOAL WAS TO INCREASE COLLEGE READINESS AS MEASURED BY 70 PERCENT OF 300 STUDENTS TO SHOW IMPROVEMENTS IN MATH AND/OR LITERACY. BASED ON THE SERVICES PROVIDED AND EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES OBTAINED BY SR1'S AMERICORPS PROGRAM, THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVED THE HUGH PECK AWARD. THE AWARD IS GIVEN TO THE MISSISSIPPI ENTITY THAT IS PROVIDING INNOVATIVE EDUCATION AND RECEIVING POSITIVE EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES FOR UNDERSERVED K-12TH GRADE STUDENTS.

DRUG FREETHE SR1 DRUG FREE COALITION IS A COLLABORATION OF 12 KEY COMMUNITY SECTORS SUCH AS SCHOOLS, YOUTH, PARENTS/GUARDIANS, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT IN CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI. THE GOAL OF THE COALITION IS TO REDUCE AND/OR PREVENT YOUTH SUBSTANCE ABUSE WITH FOCUS ON MARIJUANA, OPIOIDS, ALCOHOL AND VAPING. THE COALITION ACCOMPLISHES THESE GOALS THROUGH PREVENTION EDUCATION, ADVOCACY, TRAUMA-INFORMED EVIDENCE-BASED INTERVENTIONS (I.E. TOO GOOD FOR DRUGS AND TOO GOOD FOR VIOLENCE) ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGIES, SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS, PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACKS, CONVENIENCE STORE COMPLIANCE CHECKS, COMMUNITY FORUMS AND OTHER SUBSTANCE ABUSE FOCUSED ACTIVITIES. ADDITIONALLY, SR1 HAS TRAINED 30 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AS YOUTH AMBASSADORS WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPLEMENTING THE TOO GOOD FOR DRUGS AND TOO GOOD FOR VIOLENCE INTERVENTION IN COLLABORATION WITH AN ADULT FACILITATOR, SERVING AS PEER-MENTORS FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND ORGANIZING YOUTH DRUG FREE ACTIVITIES.

SRAESR1 UTILIZES TWO FEDERALLY APPROVED EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAMS TO HELP PROMOTE HEALTHIER RELATIONSHIPS FOR OVER 1,200 STUDENTS AGES 10-19. THE PROGRAMS ARE TRAUMA-INFORMED AND PROVIDE TRAINING TO PARTICIPANTS ON HOW TO VOLUNTARILY REFRAIN FROM NON-MARITAL SEXUAL ACTIVITY, THE BENEFITS ASSOCIATED WITH HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, GOAL SETTING, COMMUNICATION SKILLS, AND OVERALL IMPROVEMENTS IN DECISION MAKING. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROGRAMS INCORPORATE THE SUCCESS SEQUENCE, RESEARCH THAT HELPS STUDENTS STAY ON TRACK TO GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL, RECEIVE A COLLEGE DEGREE AND/OR JOB BY AGE 25. THE PROGRAM IS DIVIDED INTO TWO CURRICULA INCLUDING, RELATIONSHIP SMARTS PLUS 4.0 AND LOVE NOTES. RELATIONSHIP SMARTS PLUS 4.0 IS GEARED TOWARDS MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS (5TH-8TH GRADE) AND TAUGHT THROUGH 13 LESSONS. LOVE NOTES IS GEARED TOWARDS HIGH SCHOOL TEENS INCLUDING PARENTING TEENS AND IS TAUGHT THROUGH 13 LESSONS. SERVICE DELIVERY IS PROVIDED IN-SCHOOL SETTINGS AND COMMUNITY-BASED SETTINGS.
