St. Francis Animal Sanctuary is a haven for the care and adoption of unwanted animals in Southwest Mississippi and Louisiana.
To operate a compassionate, no-kill animal sanctuary for the ill, the unadoptable and the elderly.
St. Francis Animal Sanctuary ("SFAS") was formed to operate as a no-kill sanctuary for all companion pet animals. To aid in the fulfillment of its mission, the St. Francis Animal Sanctuary provides animal rescue operations, food, medical treatment, and a temporary haven for otherwise adoptable pets.St. Francis Animal Sanctuary is the largest no-kill companion pet sanctuary in the Southeast United States. The organization not only rescues pets, but gives compassion and hope to struggling families. SFAS provides shelter for the beloved pets of families who lost their jobs or homes and are no longer able to provide for their pets. When animals are facing death, SFAS provides a permanent sanctuary home where they receive love, affection and quality care for the rest of their lives. SFAS provides a permanent home to more than 400 companion pets annually.
St. Francis Animal Sanctuary holds adoption days various times a month around its geographic region for select animals. SFAS looks for responsible and caring people to provide rescued animals a second chance at happiness. The organization expects all of the animals to become an integral part of their new family. SFAS has basic guidelines that are considered to qualify a person for adoption. If an individual qualifies for adoption, a legally binding adoption agreement is signed and an adoption fee is remitted.
St. Francis Animal Sanctuary has a fostering program in order to further its mission with limited resources. The organization has 24 acres; however there is limited space due to its no-kill mission. Foster families provide more capacity for SFAS allowing them to help more animals. Certain animals may need to be fostered for a variety of reasons, such as they are too young for adoption or in order to recover after a medical procedure. Foster families provide the love and stability these animal need to be happy and healthy, both mentally and physically. When an animal has been in a foster home, it is more confident and social; therefore, it is able to transition into its new home with ease.
